I've lived in Finland for 35 years and never owned a single thing made in russia. The countrys irrelevance is baffling considering its size.

Finland hardly used any Russian natural gas even before the Ukraine debacle. Homes are not heated with it. It was not used to generate electricity. RUSSIA turned off the flow and the Finns said "Meeh!", shrugged their shoulders and imported gas in double quick time from neighbouring Norway.

Hello from Norway. Keep buying our oil and gas :)
  • @CSGATI
China has them where they want them.
  • “A bad economy and weak governments meant that the people are a little unhappy.” Oversimplified
  • Russia is a complete enigma really - it should be the richest country in the world with its mega sources of raw materials, but instead it has an economy the size of Australia's. The reason, bad governments after bad governments.
  • When was the last time you looked at a product in your house that was made in Russia? You will realize basically nothing comes from there other than oil and gas.

Saudi Arabia is not the world’s largest oil producer. The United States is. Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest oil exporter. OPEC+ is not a new thing, but, its recent production cuts are somewhat unprecedented. Despite OPEC+ production cuts, WTI is now priced in the $72 range. So, OPEC+ only has so much control over oil prices and volumes. Remember how powerless OPEC became in 2014 when oil production in the Permian blossomed?

Transformed supply chains are not a temporary, reverseable fix. Reliable resources are more important than spot prices and impacted delivery costs. Western businesses have learned, the hard way, that partnerships with autocratic regimes are unreliable.

Since the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Russia has had decades to make itself prosperous and free, instead it lacked and courage and the will to remove its authoritarian influence by force.

The amount of wind energy that has been built in Europe in 2 years is insane.
  • @2l84t
Amazing how a few drones can F up your production.
  • IM FROM FINLAND, we were not 50 % dependent on Russian gas, about max 10 %
  • @2Oldcoots
History has clearly demonstrated the naivete and stupidity of Angela Merkel's policy of relying upon Russia for energy.
  • Economy has no need for any physical nation, it has need of resources and a creative mind to do something good with them.

Well, Italy (7th larger manufacturing economy worldwide) situation: 2019 we relied on Russian natural gas for a staggering 44%. Only 16% of energy was based on renewable sources. 2023 we import 0% of natural gas from Russia and 38% of energy is renewable (and constantly rising).
