Theorists, have you heard of Yellowstone? No? Well, you are not alone. Yet it is apparently one of the most popular shows right now. How is that possible? Enter the rollercoaster of a platform that is Twitter. Yes, Twitter. I have a hunch that it may have a hold on your media... and your MIND! Don't believe me? Just ask Avatar 2...

  • It’s crazy how big people think Twitter is. I had no idea that Twitter is so insanely small compared to almost all other social media platforms
  • @badustephen
I would pay millions to see Matpat’s watch history.
  • I love when Matt uses these less significant topics such as movies to talk about real world issues like the echo chamber of Twitter. It reminds me of what he originally created Game Theory for, to talk about science through videogames.
  • I had this video on my "watch later" list for a while and I'm so glad I finally watched it. It confirms all of my suspicions about Twitter and the cesspool of very vocal self proclaimed "film experts" that reside there. I swear I never saw anyone complain so vehemently about movie posters in my life. There was also an insane amount of users that screamed "no one cares about Avatar" on every Avatar related tweet before Avatar 2 released and even beyond. As evidenced by the money the movie is making, a lot of people care, myself included. At this point I'm convinced that 99% of people on Twitter are just trolls and bots. Most of the reactions to movies/games on Twitter are completely opposite to people's reactions in the real world. It's baffling but this video starts to make sense of it.

Careful Matpat. You mentioned Twitter, I suggest locking your door and preparing for the worst.
  • @SunScourge
If the average Avatar fan is anything like me, they've been quietly following the ever-postponed release dates for 13 years, quietly getting hyped, and are not shouting from the rooftops how they're going to go see it in cinemas - but they will definitely go. It's been too long to be loud, but I never stopped loving the setting, and I'm quite excited to see the new writing and tech in action!
  • So coincidental that I'm finishing S4 of Yellowstone and just finding out that it's the most popular show out there right now. Crushed 4 seasons under a week while being sick. Honestly an amazing show!

It should kind of be obvious that Twitter isn't representative of most things. Not only is the userbase small, but the toxicity is so high that most users barely visit it nowadays. I was actually really excited for Snydercut but never rallied for it on Twitter. Conversely, I know many Twitter users who rallied for it but never watched it. With how small the active userbase already is, these kinds of factors play an even bigger role. That's just how it works

“Twitter is borderline lying” I think that sums up the whole of twitter
  • @lordphinix3
"What's talked about on Twitter is not reflective of what's actually talked about out in the real world." Understatement of the year Mat

In my opinion, the two most annoying social media platforms are Twitter and TikTok. Both have super annoying names and logos and everything I've ever heard or seen from them melts my brain. I hate it when people say something stupid is actually true just because they saw a TikTok or Tweet about it. I also have a very dark place in my heart for TikTok since a stupid trend was responsible for recking my school's bathrooms again and again. My advice for what it's worth would be to just stay on YouTube, where intellectuals of all kinds work... Although the adds are absolute torcher.
  • I am incredibly surprised that MatPat and everyone on his team has never even heard of Yellowstone. I’ve never watched the show but I knew it was the biggest show on tv right now. It is 100% the show I hear the most about form actual word of mouth. I live in Oklahoma and so so many people watch it. My parents and my sister love it. My aunt has a cat named after one of the characters. So it’s just kind of mind blowing to me that the theory crew has never even heard of it lol
  • I work in a library and the circulation of TV shows on DVD is super interesting as it reveals what people are actually watching (admittedly probably skewed towards older folks who are more likely to use the library). I was shocked to find that by far the shows which circulate the most are Yellowstone and British murder mysteries. In comparison, almost nobody is checking out shows like game of thrones or stranger things, or even classics like the Simpsons, which all get a lot more attention on social media.
  • I love how mat is able to talk his opinions, while not mixing them up with facts or rubbing them in your face. And he knows all his facts as well. What a guy
  • I use Twitter only to find art from the Fandoms and enjoy and support artists and fanfic writers 😅. The algorithm is insanely quick to spiral down a rabbit hole which helps a lot if you want to find cute arts of your favorite characters or whatever but it makes it nearly impossible to find anything else on your time-line specially contrary views and stuff like that
  • Now everything makes sense. For some reason I couldnt find specific themes in Twitter, personal hobbies like the care of queen ants, but in other platforms I find them. Interesting
  • I'm glad that MatPat is helping to bring attention to the deceptions of Twitter
  • @blade2453
As someone who has spent a decent amount of time on twitter, but work a blue collar job where I interact with a variety of people through several counties and 2 cities in southern Virginia, everything that this video said about twitter not representing the majority of people is something I’ve been shouting about for years to my fellow GenZ peeps
  • If there's anything that I've learned from the internet, it's that no matter how wide I think my interests are, no matter how informed I think I am, I will always be left out of a lot, and being involved in what's "trending" and shared to you online is actually more isolating than anything. The world does not exist online.
  • @maougha
Matt out here spitting facts. Also cool! I keep meaning to watch this show cause the guy who played Peter Hale on Teen Wolf is in it . . . so I'll watch for the plot. Yes. The plot.
