Oh my! I didn’t edit the book cover of James by Percival Everett correctly and it only flashed rather than lingering on the screen. Oops!
  • @brensgems7539
I'm reading Burial Rites now. I visited Iceland last January and wanted to read some books from there!!
  • @Dezarc
one of your comments on the dutch house reminded me: if fullmetal alchemist hasn't already been recommended, it should go on your manga reading list (which is probably a mile long at this point, but it's a classic)
  • Shelly, Caste has really stuck with me too. My favourite reads so far this year are James and A Suitable Boy. Happy reading!
  • U are so fun! When I clicked on this I never in a million years thought you would be recommending One Piece and Willa Cather in the same video. I also loved James. And The Ann P audiobook with Tom Hanks is on my list too. Keep up the good work.
  • @jcoxmail
My Antonia was amazing! Great reviews.
  • @athertonca
Great video, so many outstanding reads! I love Ann Patchett; my favorite book of hers is These Precious Days which is a collection of essays, but don’t let that put you off. You will stop several times to reread some passages because the writing is so ethereal. You will discover another Tom Hanks connection in this book. My two favorite 2024 novels so far are James and Long Island.

One of my favorite reads was a shortish book titled A Different Drummer by William Kelley. It was published in 1964 and largely forgotten until recently. It is about a southern town in a made up Southern state where in all the black people suddenly pack up and start leaving the area and this affects others. Fantastic!

Hi Shelly, Ann Patchett's Tom Lake has stuck with me the most so far this year.
  • I just finished As Long As the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh. It's fabulous. Heartbreaking and gorgeous. It's the kind of book that reminds you of why you love reading so much.

❤📚❤️ Great reviews, you really describe well and in a very excited manner. Burial Rites is definitely a favorite. I also enjoyed Endurance Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lancing, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles and Middlemarch by George Eliot. I added My Antonia and James to my list. I own The Dutch House, I just need to pick it up!
  • @savagereads
I read After the Romanovs recently! It was really well done but I wish I had had more background before starting. Caste was also an amazing read!
  • @awebofstories
Oooh, I need to pick up The Glutton! I've heard a couple of people talk highly about it and trippy books have been working for me lately!
  • @annava7786
I read Katherine when I was 14 or 15 and I loved it so much. It really influenced my love of medieval history. Now, many years later, I got it on Kindle and am curious to see how my thoughts may have changed. Thanks for mentioning it.
  • @cassietower9694
Thank you for the recommendations! I also loved The Dutch House and Perfume! I would like to recommend Paulette Jiles, especially News of the World! Hope you check it out.
  • @lilaccottage
Hannah Kent has also eritten a book called The Good People. The Good People is based on true events in 19th century Ireland. I hoping to read it this month.
  • I think The Dutch House will stick with you and wind up on a top 10.🎉 it has stuck with me for a few years now. My favs of the year so far: Daniel Deronda, a short story called The Snow Storm by Alexander Pushkin, and March by G. Brooks.
