When Decca Studios West Hampstead closed, I bought several old speakers, tapes etc. I forgot about the tape. Decades later I finally made an effort to hear this quarter inch 30 ips recording on a 15 ips Revox (after making a 7.5 ips copy and playing it at 15 ips.)
I'm not a Duke Ellington fan but this performance, but its high fidelity reproduction, years ahead for a 1953 recording, blew me away. The cymbal sound alone is miracle of sound engineering.
A professional studio in Shepherds Bush produced a great digital transfer. I sincerely pity the majority of viewers who don't read the description and fail to listen past the first 10 seconds of this rare recording.
Audio quality of this video, even with the compressed YouTube sound, is vastly superior to all previously released versions of Skin Deep. Audio quality outperforms any vinyl or CD release.
