For devoted Gibson Les Paul aficionados, ’50s Standards are, well, the “gold standard.” A 1958 or 1959 sunburst is an instrument of sublime beauty, and models in exceptional shape command astronomical prices. The Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s Limited Edition evokes the look, feel and sound of these near-unobtainable treasures, and puts the magic into your hands. This celebration of an iconic Les Paul era features a solid mahogany body, plain maple top, rounded-C mahogany neck, 12" radius rosewood fretboard, 22 medium-jumbo frets and Burstbucker 1 (neck) and Burstbucker 2 (bridge) humbuckers.

“Players such as Jimmy Page and Warren Haynes inspired me to pick up a Les Paul,” says Los Angeles guitarist, educator and leader of her own band, Angela Petrilli. “I have a ’59 reissue back home that I absolutely love. Les Pauls are incredibly resonant instruments. You can strum them and get a beautiful rhythm with a big, all-encompassing tone, but you can also get a screaming lead sound if you hit an overdrive pedal. When I play in the rhythm position of a Les Paul, I’m looking for something that is well rounded with a lot of character, but still has enough bite to cut through a mix. In the bridge position, I look for something that really cuts. This guitar gives me the tones I would expect from a ’50s Les Paul Standard.”

I always joke, but actually serious. Gibson Les Paul, one of the greatest inventions of all time. The tone, the wood, the feel of the neck, the vibration, the control, and the smell of a vintage LP.

More demos by Angela please. She's one of my favourite players. Her playing in these demos is so tasteful, and her description of her use of controls to achieve the tones she is describing is developing my understanding. Love my les pauls!

I love my '96 50's. With the permium plus top it looks as good as it plays. Iconic. Great demo.

Angela is the best guitar instructor going round. Any guitar looks perfect on her especially a Les Paul
  • Thank you so much for this demo. What a beautiful instrument... I'll probably never be able to afford one, which does not mean I don't appreciate its awesome features, build quality and superb tones. Oh, and its so cool to finally hear someone presenting Les Paul tones playing through (mostly) a clean channel ;)

This is a good demo that shows how versatile a Lester can be. Kudos to Angela for displaying good musical style and for not playing cheesy blues lawyer licks that all the other demos on YT seem to do
  • @iagobrown1800
I love a plain top. That guitar looks so good but I’d like the red faded a bit more.
  • @akmt123
Had the same guitar... cheers from Canada.
  • @kevindorsey1970
I played one a couple of days ago. I really like the neck better than the older ones.
  • @helensky13
wonderful that one! I've got Gibson LP Standart black one (she was born in 1980) 😊 , still love that guitar and playing about 25 years, she's nice! but my dreams to buy one more Gibson! though I have another guitars, but Gibson is my favorite! 🥰
  • @SlashDav
Gibson «  dont need to reinvent the wheel » Love this guitar

I love the Les Paul, but they are overpriced, and I'm not sure they bring much more to the table. I just bought an Epiphone 1959 LP Standard Outfit ADCB (limited edition), and I am very happy with it. The value for money is much better, and it looks stunning in dark aged cherry sunburst. It has the Les Paul shape that I adore. Epiphone, to me, is a success by Gibson. And Angela is always beautiful and a talented guitar player.
  • I think it’s a great guitar. The pickups are well balanced and the nuances shown while dialing different tones were spot on. Great playing from the very talented Ms. Angela Petrilli too.
  • I personally like best the middle position with rhythm volume on 5, treble volume on 10, and both tones on 10 👍 👍
