Days after Philippines and Japan signed a landmark defence pact – the Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) which allows Filipino forces to enter Japan for joint drills, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin are scheduled to meet their counterparts in Tokyo and Manila this week to discuss security issues, including what they perceive as security threats posed by Beijing in the Indo-Pacific.
Observers say the US has played a key role in bringing Manila and countries such as Tokyo closer resulting in the consequential mutual defence pact, which is one of the many recent similar tie-ups between Philippines and other nations, believed to be orchestrated by America to contain China’s growing influence in the region.
Is Philippines playing into the hands of US as Washington fights an influence war with Beijing? Does Manila seek to expand its defence cooperation with countries beyond US?

Well, we're not a pawn of the US. We have an MDP with the US since 1954. We stand with America rather than Putin's Russia. Sorry India.
  • @krystalmae5557
The usa has always been interested in the Philippines, since colonial times, nothing ever changed
  • @gily6107
If China didnt build a military base inside Philippine EEZ there would not have been a problem .
  • @NinetyEight00

Come on what do you want them to do stand and sit-down and just watch 🤣😆😂
  • @edzdeguzman612
It won't happened if china is not greedy and not bullying the Philippines... Thank you America...
  • @rojsunio432
If china respect its neighbors there wont be issues
  • @fathnson
Did it ever occur to you Japan is slowy, steadily going back to its pre WWII behaviour taking advantage of every possible opportunity?
  • @noeldizon5437
If china respect the international law 2016 arbitral rulling nothing's problem in the SCS
  • It is a no-brainer that China is the aggressor here. And like any aggressor, any perceived weakness on its victim makes the aggressor more aggressive. The Philippines should make more calculated strength-building activities.
  • @jeppilande5705
It was China who started the escalation. Imagine the nine dash line as a historical claim? It follows Israel's claim for its ancestral land. This two countries illegally bypassed international laws.
  • @czts4778
It's China's action that makes the Philippines take a defensive stand. China always blames other countries and doesn't always take accountability because it's very sensitive to be a liability on the world stage, like denying the covid virus's origin.
  • Pawn? Philippines 🇵🇭 is following international law while China 🇨🇳 is not . We are asserting our sovereign rights under international law UNCLOS. We are not pawn of US but like minded partners.
  • @gilbs72
Don't fall for the Chinese mind games. China triggered all this with their artificial islands ang harrassment of Filipino fishing boats. They are just upset that the Philippines isn't backing down as they have a Mutual Defense Treaty with the US. Philippines has been supporting US foreign military campaigns too, by sending troops.
  • South China border sea dispute involves many parties. Malaysia vs China, Vietnam vs China, Indonesia vs China, Philippines vs China... Yet only Philippines have physical conflict with China... Clearly the cause is not China. Because if China is the sole cause, the other 3 countries would also have physical conflict. The difference between the 4 south east Asian countries is only Philippines bringing outsiders into the dispute while the other 3 is keeping it bilateral. The cause is very clear.
