This recap and review looks at the sixth episode of the ninth and final series of Inside Number Nine, called Plodding On. In this video I'll do a full breakdown of the episode, talking through every key moment and review the episode as a whole. I'll also pick out my favourite line, go over some hidden Easter eggs in the episode and cover some interesting trivia, including how there was a reference to every previous Inside No 9 episode in this finale.

This finale is set at the wrap party for Inside No 9, with Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton playing themselves as well as being joined by a huge number of returning guest actors from the past nine series of the show. With the end of the programme on the horizon, Reece and Steve are considering their future creative relationship and potential future projects pushes their friendship close to breaking point. Will it all end with a happy ending? I’ll not spoil it here but I will warn you that this video is obviously packed with spoilers, so please only watch it if you’ve either watched the episode already or want to know what happens.

Please remember to subscribe if you enjoy the video.

  • There were quite a few more little references... * The Private sign at the start shouts out to Private View * Steve keeping his shoes under the table, possibly a reference to Diddle Diddle Dumpling when David was staring lovingly at the shoe under the table. * Steve in the end credits is eating an onion like an apple, which Kathy references someone doing in Devil of Christmas * Reece says he was worried Steve had a brain aneurysm, which is what happened to Frankie J Parsons in Last Gasp * Reece also says "What am I, a science experiment?" (3 By 3) * Amanda Abbington (or is that Katherine Parkinson?) munching on a carrot is a reference to the carrot passed around by the pupils in Mr King. * Nick Mohammed mentions both sorting out his podcast in the edit, which is a reference to a line in Séance Time, and the company Wills Unlimited which is also advertised on the radio at the start of Dead Line. * The line on the Wise Owl poster "Disinfect, purge, sterilise" sounds like something from the posters in Boo To A Goose Think that's everything.

I'd love to see an Inside Number 9 movie in the style of those old Amicus horror films from the 60s & 70s like Asylum and Dr terrors house of horrors. I know Steve is a big fan of those movies.

That was absolutely brilliant. I don’t know why this moves me to tears.. anything inside no 9 really.. a decade with them is a feat. I hope they make Halloween and Christmas specials.. 🙏🏻
  • It was a brilliant finale - am now watching every episode from start to finish.
  • Reece and Steve said in interviews that people would tell them their ideas for episodes of Inside Number 9, but it would never be a storyline, just an idea for a location, like a number 9 bus. I think that’s where the bus in the episode comes from.

Wow well done noticing all the references, I didn’t see half of these when I watched it…! Also well done to Steve and Reece for managing to do it in the first place

Interestingly enough, on the Taskmaster podcast with Ed Gamble, recorded sometime in early 2021, Katherine Parkinson talks about how she gets mistaken for Amanda Abbington.

They have to make a Christmas special every year from now on 😄

There's at least two threads on twitter that have located (or tried to locate) all the credited cameos at the wrap party.

Any chance you could re-do the commentary? Far too fast. Can’t make out a word
