“To play for a draw, at any rate with white, is to some degree a crime against chess.” - Mikhail Tal
  • Sharansky was a political prisoner for 9 years under the Soviets half of it in isolation, to maintain sanity he would play out chess games in his head. Pretty crazy imo
  • @architsaha1324
If you haven't heard of Natan Sharansky, he was in jail for 9 years, during which he was deprived of everything. The only way he decided to remain sane was playing chess games in his mind. I heard this anecdote where he said, during his time in jail, he played against Garry in his mind. His power of visualisation is talked of by many motivational and spiritual speakers.
  • nikhil also wanted to be in newspapers.... he did actually in different manner

"Unknown player beats world champion." But for real this time.
  • @davdavsin
He wasn’t just a “politician”- he was prisoned for 9 years in a Russian gulag for trying to leave the country. He is a big hero and human rights activist
  • @ChemNews
Sharansky had many years to train chess in Soviet prison, where he was placed for his will to escape USSR.
  • @ibrahimahmed1587
For all the people who are fighting over Palestine and Israel, STOP.. it's just a game of chess, please enjoy it and go on with your life.
  • @ME0WMERE
well, he is getting on a bit 'Russian Immigrant Minister Beats World Chess Champion (Original Title)' is the original title in case he changes it lel
  • Plot twist, Sharansky was using a pocked version of IBM Deep Blue to beat Kasparov.
  • @sainder5248
for those wondering the quote is - " French Defense exchange variation-- the shame! "
  • @HBM_FILMS
Natan Sharansky was a political prisoner in the Soviet Union (1977-86). He sat 9 years in prison before being released and moving to Israel. In his book 'Fear No Evil' he describes how he would play thousands of chess matches in his head- remembering every game- while sitting in the prison cell. Although he didn't proceed with a professional career, he is widely respected as a GM-level player.

#Suggestion Alekhine vs Tarrasch 1922 in the Blumenfeld Gambit The game is called "Siegbert under siege" and shows a strong clash of chess styles in a very aggressive opening. I thought this would be a cool game for you, as the opening is rarely seen, but is very strong!!
  • @McSleezy720
Thank you for doing the ending. Amazing commentary for an amazing game. Your videos will live on to teach for generations!
  • @apollyon1
Sharansky looks like he yells "INCONCEIVABLE!" at pursuing masked assailants while fleeing with a princess bride.
  • Tired: watching agadmator analyze a game Wired: watching medo while some random guy comments on chess games
