The shopkeeper with somewhat peculiar behavior showed you Dr. Norman Bethune, a Canadian doctor well-known in China. He is widely recognized for his assistance to the Chinese military during World War II, and he passed away due to an infection contracted during his service. He is a Canadian whom the Chinese people greatly appreciate. The message he intended to convey is that Canadians are very kind.
  • @gilgilgilbear
The "Canadian actor" you saw is called Norman Bethune. He is famous in China as a thoracic surgeon. He is a member of the Canadian Communist Party and saved many people in China during World War II. I graduated from Jilin University in Changchun. The medical school of this university is called Bethune Medical College.

To avoid any misunderstandings, as a Chinese, I would like to explain here (although there have been many comments explaining the situation) that this hot tempered shop owner is showing you Norman Bethune, a Canadian who went to China during World War II to provide free treatment for soldiers and civilians, and was respected and loved by all Chinese people. If I remember correctly, Dr. Norman Bethune was one of the three people in China who have been given national gifts since the founding of the country. Generally, only the head of state would be given this national gift, so its value is self-evident. And with this national gift, the three of them and their families can receive eternal protection from the Chinese government. As long as it does not violate international law or the laws of their country, the Chinese government can fulfill all their wishes. For example, Mr. Rabe, who received the national gift, as a German, protected tens of thousands of civilians in Nanjing during World War II and escaped the tragic fate of being slaughtered by the Japanese, Therefore, he also received one of the national gifts. During the epidemic, his grandson sought help from the Chinese government, hoping to receive a batch of anti epidemic supplies. The Chinese government did not hesitate to arrange for the supplies to be quickly sent to Germany by special plane. These three individuals are respected by all Chinese people, so the shop owner learned that you are from Canada, which reminded him of Norman Bethune. He said: The Canadian people are our friends, and Mr. Norman Bethune comes from Canada! The three individuals who have received national gifts from the Chinese government as individuals are John Rabe (Germany), Norman Bethune (Canada), and Evan Kyle (United States). The Chinese government and all Chinese people will never forget that they have helped China. As long as China and Chinese people still exist in this world, we will protect their families until the end of the world.

Almost all Chinese know this Canadian doctor - Norman Bethune, who was a communist and came to China during WW II to help Chinese fighting against the Japanese invasion. He died in China and everyone now in China has been taught to remember his sacrifice during WW II and respect him as a hero. In 1972, the Canadian government declared Bethune “a Canadian of national historical significance”, creating the Bethune Memorial Home in his hometown of Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada. Now this site has become a hot tourist place for Chinese. That's why Chinese always had a good impression about Canada. Sadly, during these years China-Canada relationship has deteriorated sharply due to politics. If Canada continues to follow US in suppressing China, maybe one day Canadians will lose all the respect and friendliness from Chinese people. But I guess they don't care. After all, most Canadians have no idea who Bethune is, and they do not know or even care what Chinese people have gone through during WWII. To most of them, China is just a backward or even a savage country. Who would need friendship from such a country? nah.

The shopkeeper was not shouting at u guys, he just thought Ivana could understand Chinese😂
  • @kingbin-ph1yu
In the video, the vendor wants to translate a doctor from Canada, Henry Norman Bethune, who has made a very important contribution and kindness to our country. In the early 20th century in China, he treated our wounded soldiers during the war and was a thoracic surgeon. Because of his kindness, many Chinese know him, our country once gave him very fine porcelain, this porcelain seems to be a national gift to other national leaders and important people, he is our benefactor and friend. The vendor wanted to express his feelings and gratitude for the country of Canada.
  • @xzzkat
It’s actually impressive how much you’re able to understand without a translator 😂😂 loving the China series ❤
  • @cruisel7584
The Canadian that man showed in his mobile phone is Henry Norman Bethune, who came to China to help Chinese in World War II. Every Chinese knows him in textbook of primary school.
  • @user-le9om5pn2q
To demonstrate how famous and legendary Dr. Norman Bethune is. He's been written into not only in Chinese text books, but also official CPC history record. And theres a famous saying by Mao Zedong that, Dr. Norman Bethune is "A noble man, a pure man, a moral man, a man out of vulgar taste and a man who is for the people". This indicates, although recent relation between China and Canada has been through some disturbances, Chinese will never forget those who helped them when they needed most, one of them being a canadian.
  • Dr. Norman Bethune maybe the most familiar Canadian for so many Chinese. And as a great doctor, he really contributed a lot to our positive consideration of Canadian people.
  • @MissAwa515
The shopkeeper is a typical Chongqing uncle, outgoing, talktive, love to tease people to be funny.😂 He was asking Ivana "you don't understand as well???" several times in disbelief, coz he thought she's Chinese. Lol. And the fashion city you went is actually a wholesale market, that location has been the wholesale market since when i was young.
  • @andyshar3090
He showed you Henry Norman Bethune, a canadian was born in Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada, on 3 March 1890. His father was a Presbyterian minister from a long family line of clergymen, educators and medical practitioners, while his mother was an evangelical missionary. The family badge of service and his father’s exhortation to “always go where you’re needed” left an indelible mark on young Bethune, influencing his eventual foray into China. There, he offered his selfless medical services to the war-torn country, an act that made him a national hero in a foreign land.
  • @yiluis1316
The first thing that comes to people's mind when they mention Canada is Norman Bethune. They teach from the very young age in the schools about his contributions to the nation in the WWII.
  • @sihouhisou948
As someone who is not good at bargaining watching you two look around the mall for clothes and bravely challenge to negotiate prices, I am really impressed.Actually. A lot of these clothes are actually of good quality and don't cost much, just because they don't have a recognizable brand name. When it comes to Harbin or other parts of the Northeast, I have to highly recommend the local bathing centers, which in my opinion are a magnificent rebirth of bathing culture in modern times, and the price is reasonable, including many services that are definitely worth experiencing.
  • @CCQQ475
The video of this trip to Chongqing is so funny! The male owner of the clothing store didn’t let Ivana pay because he said he didn’t want to make money off of Chinese people (joking 😂), plus the Canadian he knows is Bai Qiu'en, a Canadian doctor who came to China to help rescue the Chinese during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Chongqing city is a dock city, so the store owner's personality is very much characteristic of dock city culture (talkative and warm) 😂
  • @13margiela
The shopkeeper trying to tell u Dr. Henry Norman Bethune, who helps us in The War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,he is kind of most famous Canadian in China.Every Chinese students study his spirit in the school,we all respect him.
  • @adamg2473
I am a local of Harbin. Welcom to my city. Glad to reply any question if you need any help.
  • @fisheryu6287
Norman Bethune was born in 1890 in Gravenhurst, Ontario, and had an interest in medicine from an early age. He attended the University of Toronto, but in 1911 took a year off to teach lumber camp workers at Frontier College. I visited his town to memorize him for his contributions to China.😅 lots of Chinese tourists visited his born town.
