I sat next to Dave on a flight from Seattle to LA once. It was my first time flying alone, I was probably 12 or 13, and I was very nervous. At this point I had no clue who the Foo Fighters or Nirvana were, so I literally had no clue who he was. He could tell I was super uneasy, so he talked to me and was super reassuring, asking me my name and introducing himself, just generally being a really friendly guy. He talked about how he played music, but never mentioned the bands, and never really played up how famous he was. He helped me get my carryon out of the luggage compartment and told me to have a fun time as I was going to disneyland with my uncle who lived in irvine, and that was it. I saw a couple people ask him for a picture when we got off the plane, but I never realized who he was until a year or so later when I mentioned a "Dave" who played music and took some pictures with people to some friends who asked me if it was him, and it just blew my mind. Really, really genuine guy, and an experience I'll never forget.

“I don’t know anything about guitar, I’m not a trained musician, I can’t read music, I don’t know what these chords are” proceeds to write one of the most iconic songs of all time. Rock on Dave. Wow! I gotta admit guys, I never thought my comment would get this kind of response. I’m just happy to know everybody is such a fan. Here’s to many more years of Foo!

Played this version at my brothers funeral yesterday. The perfect song for the perfect brother. ❤️

That song is like wine, the more you hear it the better it gets.
  • @ilikecheese1970
As a self trained guitarist the chords are: sounds good, sounds good, and sounds good.

It’s funny how we can take a song and it can mean something so different in our lives. The first time I heard this was on the hour long drive to Toronto’s Sick Kids Hospital, after 3.5 years our daughter was having her final chemo. “Could anything ever be this good again” … hubby and I smiled while our daughter and our son (10 months younger than our girl) sang the Do do do's in the backseat. It was our victory song! That same little girl is a beautiful and brilliant 31 year old who's getting married in October (to a drummer 🤷🏼‍♀️😂), we'll have a family dance to “our song… Everlong 😊 thanks Dave ❤️!

This guy is really good, he should be in a band or something.

"Don't know anything about guitar" Dave Grohl Lead singer, guitarist and drummer in over two of the most successful and iconic bands in the world
  • Went to a mental institution for like a month when I was 15. I’d spend all my time in the main room hovering over the little radio they had. I wouldn’t let anyone change the station 103.9. I’d wait each day for em to play this beautiful song and I’d feel way better than all the meds they ever gave me ever did. This was right when it came out. And the acoustic version is the best!
  • The acoustic version gave us chills hearing it on the stern show way back then we included it in my daughter's funeral, because at this tone it really felt like a sad but beautiful description of our brief trip here together in the physical ❤we were planning to take her to see Dave that same year but she didn't stay long enough. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful song with the world

“Im not a trained musician” says the legend who played drums and lead/guitar for two of the most influential bands of the 90s and 00s. Dave kills it
  • @omg.pslino
“I’m not a trained musician” - said one of the best drummers ever

there’s something about this song that just doesn’t compare to any other song out there, it is such a special song
  • @denwinter7730
That song actually saved my life. I was in a dark place.. I still struggle and I stilllisten to it everyday
  • It’s bonkers to me that he’s this incredible and successful musician and yet doesn’t know what chords are which. It’s pretty damn inspiring, really.

This song is like depression and happiness at the same time

A story of everlong, a story of a man who persevered through a pain beyond all pain. To keep going after most would think its all lost. He could have quit after Kurt died, but he powered through and drove forward into an amazing force that is the Foo Fighters. Props to you Dave, love ya man
