My old apt. had the water leaking from the one above it in the wall. I never used it so it was dark. EVERY time I'd come home from work or every single weekend I would get BAD flu symptoms. I went into my spare room barefooted & it felt like I was walking on Jell-o!!! I turned on the light & 3 ft. from the wall were mushrooms! The wall had black & green mold on it. I cut a piece of carpet and drywall & sent it to an independent lab. A few days later a report came back with over a DOZEN different molds, but the strongest one was stachybotrys (deadly black mold!). The landlord was pissed I cut the carpet & drywall! He hired some old handyman to just clean the carpet & wall. I said, "THAT NEEDS REPLACING, NOT JUST CLEANDED OFF!" He refused, so when the building inspector came by, I told him the owner (& landlord) said "The building inspector doesn't have any authority over me! He's nothing but a pu$$y & a waste of money!" He didn't really say that, but it caused the inspector's veins to bulge & I saw him grit his teeth. He ordered him to pay for outside inspections of ALL his apartments (about $200 each) & also ordered a moratorium on new renters until he complied.

My adult kid rented an apartment. I went over and I noticed there was no hot air coming out of the clothes dryer vent while the dryer was on. We pulled the dryer away from the wall and found the vent pipe was missing from the dryer. It was FULL of lint. I called the landlord and the idiot told me "his friend was an OSHA inspector and had inspected the apartment". I pointed out that his "friend's inspection" was illegal and asked for his "friend's" name, but he 🤣 refused to tell me. ->I hate pathological liars. That f-ing moron could have caused a fire that killed numerous people! But he resorted to outrageous lies instead of fixing the problem.

Seen some similar stuff whilst organising home modifications/ wheelchair access for local Hospital. Had a deck/ balcony like that at 2:45, and I quickly calculated how much the water weighed and told the guy ... it had not actually occurred to him that weight might be an issue. Had a very elderly chap whose house had wiring sticking out all over like at 3:40, and was too unsafe for Carers go in and help him cook/bathe etc ... when I diplomatically suggested getting an Electrician in to 'check things' he replied that he was an Electrician 😮

I am totally happy that I am not an inspector ....

Doing ‘handy-man’ repairs for the little old lady that lived next door, I found her toilet had been hooked up to hot water supply. Then found out from her that the ‘plumber’ had ‘fixed’ the sweating tank problem 2 years prior. Instead of replacing the old style toilet with a new insulated tank toilet, he’d ran a hot water line instead. (It does work😂.) Only reason I noticed was her tank float needed adjustment to prevent a constant trickle of water overfilling.
