When he says that he lives in Detroit, what he meant to say is that he lives in Royal Oak.

“In Detroit you have to know where cool things are… for example a yacht club in Grosse Pointe, it’s a cool thing”
  • @celestethabest
What he considers the real Detroit is a 1.5 mile stretch along Woodward and Cass where average rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is $1500
  • I grew up in Detroit. Actually really grew up there. Not the outlying areas that people claim is Detroit. He is accurate to a degree

This guy lives in Detroit, goes to Whole Foods in Detroit, buys his 9 dollar latte right after attending his hot yoga class in Detroit.

I'm a Detroiter have been my entire life he's 100% right. Detroit is a lot more lowkey and subtle then new york but we have all the big city essentials like stadiums, high end shopping, entertainment, and fantastic food. As for danger again hes right the downtown has always been safe the real dangerous parts are on the west side in the ghettos and is mostly gang or drug related but even still I've walked through the bad neighborhoods like brightmoor and was never in danger.

Very well said. The Downtown area is extremely safe like in most cities the metropolitan areas are low crime rate, safe and clean. I lived on the east side of Detroit for almost 50 years and survived. As a child I lived in the projects and rarely have I experience violence. Because in most cases people who keep to themselves and work live normal lives. The reputation Detroit gets is overrated.

If you’re driving in Detroit at night and suddenly turn down a road with no street lights, turn around.
  • @Bargainteers
He’s the type of person to say he lives on 8 mile, but he actually lives on the Warren side.

If you're from Detroit, you know the "outlying neighborhoods" mean the actual residential areas inside Detroit proper. During the housing crash of 08, many people lost their homes to foreclosure when the city's mayor decided to misappropriate Hardest Hit Funds to pay conflicting interests for literally demolishing entire blocks and neighborhoods. Prior to that, resources and city services had been severely cut following the mass "white flight" when half the city's white population left for surrounding suburbs. Factors which only built up on long standing policies such as Redlining that had already been subjecting and confined most Black residents to the worst parts of the city. The recent gentrification that started mostly in the downtown areas mainly serve to attract more white residents as many of the city's black residents who remained have continued to voice there concerns of sub par city services, over priced property taxes, and lack of representation in policy making. #TheMoreYouKnow

    1. He doesn't live in Detroit. Royal Oak, Birmingham, or something that ends in "Hills". To be fair he said he is FROM Detroit. Probably moved 50 years ago to the burbs. Or lives in Indian Village, Palmer Park, or the new gentrified areas with condos going for $800k+ 2. He is correct about downtown. The issue is you have to travel through the outlying areas to get there. And get home. Crime in Detroit isn't so much about a general area. In many places its block by block. On the same street. Block 1....great. Manicured lawns, well kept homes, clean, safe. The next block burned out trap houses. And the one after is overall descent.

Facts i lived in Detroit my whole life the only time you really not safe is if you in a place you know you shouldn’t be or you messing with someone you shouldn’t be other than that you good😂
  • I've spent so much time in many different areas of Detroit as an adult that I felt like I lived there. Morning, noon, and night I never felt unsafe. I worked, socialized and got complex healthcare for my son. During this time, I would roam the streets of Detroit exploring and not just the nice areas. I love Detroit.

I was born and raised in Detroit, and it's definitely a rough city. Many suburbanites move to gentrified downtown and think that represents all of Detroit, but it's just a small part of a larger city.
  • Downtown Detroit may as well be a different city. Lol I love my city but he’s definitely not from the CITY fr it’s definitely rough.
