There's only a small handful of movies where I think celebrities transcend their identity as a celebrity and actually become the character, and it basically exclusively happened to shrek, megamind, and Kung Fu Panda lol.

I like how they do it in Japan. When an ongoing, popular anime gets a live action movie, they usually do a thing where the live action star for the main character will play a small side role in the anime and advertise it a bit. Sometimes you even see a short "making of" where the movie actor does his best to match the quality of the voice acting, because both voice actors and live action actors are respected
