Hello and welcome to Gia Scott-Heron’s channel. The YouTube channel for the daughter of Gil Scott-Heron offering positivity, dope poetry, and personality! It is important during Black History Month to honor our Black heroes, and this channel is dedicated to the continuing the legacy left behind by these rarely sung of heroes. Much like her father, Gil Scott-Heron, they and their contributions deserve to be remembered.

The author of the recited poem “If We Must Die” is Claude McKay.
Claude McKay (9/15/1889 - 5/22/1948) was born in Clarendon, Jamaica 🇯🇲 but moved to the U.S. and became part of what’s known as the Harlem Renaissance. He was extremely prolific and wrote many novels, his most famous being “Home to Harlem” which won a Harmon Gold Award. Please Google this man to learn more about his excellent poetry, including the sonnet recited above.
