Dragon Quest, also known as Dragon Warrior in its initial North American localization, is the first game in the Dragon Quest franchise and one of the first JRPG video games ever created, setting in stone many of the tropes that would define the genre. The story in the game is very simple: an unnamed hero is tasked by the king of Alefgard to rescue his daughter and defeat the Dragonlord, who is threatening the kingdom and has stolen the legendary Sphere of Light.

TaoTao ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/TaoTao ) in this run completes the game in less than seven minutes by utilizing a significant glitch in the Japanese version that corrupts the RAM, making the game think the Dragonlord was already defeated and the kingdom saved. For further details on how this was achieved, you can read the author's notes ( tasvideos.org/8072S ).

Fortune smiles upon thee, TaoTao. Thou hast found the game end glitch.

I’ve never seen the animation of the Japan version of this game. I can’t stop staring at the hero flinging his arms out to the sides
  • Wow. You can really manipulate the hell out of monster attacks!! Basically shut that shit off.. and the glitch was cool too. Lolol

And thus the TAS comes to an 0406 80, unless the glitches return again.

You'll notice that once the hero gets the gal, his arms stop flailing all Macarena-like. That's because of the King's royal decree 0406no80 that dictates a religious ending. You may have restored peace to the world but you chose a new beginning to resume the Macarena with everyone else. 11/10 TAS.
  • There seems to be a typo in the descriptions here and on the site: "an unnamed her" → "an unnamed hero".
  • You glitch the princess into your hands only to find out there already is a princess in the castle. So you go on another quest with a bonus princess in tow
  • 平和が訪れる前に、三角関係の修羅場が起きそうなエンディング…。 さすが4のくびかざり。

Meet the Grandpa of the modern RPG. Rather than be hateful like Wizardry or Obtuse like Ultima, you can actually tell what's going on in Dragon Quest. Even though this early version has no directional sprites, it still has smoother movement than most of it's contemporaries and predecessors. Sure, there were RPGs in Japan before this, but who was going to remember 1984's The Black Onyx?
  • @ElFino013
Shouldn't this be titled FC Dragon Quest?

    あなたはのろわれました で画面かいめつするの怖すぎる
  • Its not a glitch, it's game genie. You can see that at one point they have a bunch of spells, despite being at level 1.

Next thing you know, NESCardinality will do this manually. 🤣🤣
