The idea of king kong as a ronin like character is honestly a really interesting take, and it definitely fits how he acts in this movie.

I always thought that this movie was actually pretty underrated. Glad you put out a CinemaWin on it!

I don't think it's that "story is not important," rather that it's "a story doesn't need to be complex or complicated to be impactful." A well-told but simple story is better than a poorly-told complicated story. Sure, it's easier to tell a simple story well. . . that's why it's simple. But there's nothing inherently wrong with knowing you want to tell a simple, straightforward tale and committing to doing that in the best way you can. Guillermo Del Toro took that approach for Pacific Rim, and it worked perfectly. And much as I love an intelligent, thought-provoking narrative, heart is more important. The most cerebral stories fall flat if they have no heart, and the most simplistic stories soar if they have an abundance of it. And Kong: Skull Island had tons of heart. John C. Reilly is really an underrated performer. Honestly, he did more with "Mr. Cellophane" in Chicago than most of that cast did in the whole rest of the movie, and that film was chalk full of legendary actors turning in amazing performances.
