I went to a psychologist last month and I am getting treatment for anxiety and depression. I am not embarrassed to say that I am on medication now.

I lost my Justin to suicide 2/13/21 forever 26. Even now....15 months today.... it is so hard to believe this is my reality to live in a world without my son. My first born that I longed for. I took fertility drugs to conceive. He knew that he was very wanted and very loved. Mental illness is not easy to spot. No one thought he would actually choose suicide as an exit. Please be kind. Please choose to stay.

Depression is hard. Life is hard. Sometimes we feel hopeless. All i can say is live a life of kindness. Please. We are all dealing with things no one know about. Be kind to people. It matters so much. Be good to yourself and kind and patient with others. Offer grace. It all matters. Before. After. Forever

I'm glad that they're still talking about this. People are hurting often and we don't even know it.

April is such an amazing person. So strong and resilient. The way she explained to the news anchor that knew her that they couldn’t be a savior to her or “save her” as they struggled after her passing.

I believe Cheslie's perfectionism was due to her depression and not the cause. I really believe Cheslie depression was biological. She had the skills, tools and strategies to support herself but was still depressed. Some people need medicine. Kristin Bell talks a lot about her depression and how it is due to a chemical imbalance she was born with. No one would deny a person with diabetes their medicine, it needs to be less stigmatized for people with mental illnesses to take medicine.
  • Ive been feeling like this for several years. Basically every day. Even more in the past two years. I told someone that I am depressed everyday and she looked surprised. She said you dont look depressed or seem depressed here at work. I said I still have to get up everyday for work and be present while im here. Its a struggle everyday but I have to do it. I still have bills and other responsibilities.
  • You never know what people are going through. We wear a lot masks in life. So happy her Mom is having this conversation. Especially being black. We don't take mental health seriously enough. It's ok to get help and no one should be shamed or meant to feel less than because they are struggled with mental health. I have struggled with depression and my parents were great about it. A lot of my family members just wanted to call me crazy, pray it away or eat some soul food and you'll be fine. SMH

I have no words, as I am a mom too. April, my heart goes out to you. I knew your daughter because my daughters loved her, they followed her on social media, and they were in awe of her accomplishments. Sending you love and virtual hugs. Thank you for being so vulnerable! I lost my mom tragically 28 years ago and I have not stopped grieving for her. I live with sadness every day because I miss my sweet mom... love your favorite memory!

Wow such an articulate mom with clarity and deep insights.

They didn't mention a chemical imbalance which can cause depression. We have to look after the neurotransmitters in our brain. RIP Cheslie Kryst
  • April being so Transparent & Vulnerable with Gayle King about her daughter Chelsie Kryst is brave yet heartbreaking 💔 in a sense. I battle with Clinical Depression/Anxiety an lemme tell you Mental illness doesn’t discriminate. Mental health/Mental illness is REAL… Be Kind, we all are battling something. Suicide/Depression is a “ SILENT KILLER”. If you know someone struggling please reach out & take heed to the warning signs‼️

Unfortunately, the world could not give Cheslie the same Love that a Mom could give...

The first time I came across her TikTok with her M&M's. I was like she is the MOST beautiful woman I've ever seen!. Im like whoa! This girl is everything! And I see more of her now. And I'm like so frustrated because she's powerful and a little powerhouse. And I'd love to have have one more moment to see her. Be with her. Or even tag along the journey with her on her social media. Man! I feel all the feelings.

People who take their own lives just want to feel relief from the feeling of their own despair. There isn't a cookie cutter solution to depression. Sometimes you just get tired and suicide presents itself as an easy way out!
