Great ambassador for darts and Welsh sport. Loved to watch darts in those days and Sid Waddel's commentary!
-
Two of the smoothest throwers and gentlemen ever
-
Two total legends Leighton first world darts champion and Johnny Lowe old stone face himself world champion in 3 different decades 🎯🎯🎯
-
Leighton was THE man, my grandfather was the first guy to sign him to a team, the 'Fighting Blood' in Porth, Rhondda. Leighton was 17 then, the first time I met him, 20 years later, he still remembered 'Ernie Clark'.................life is great.
-
I used to love watching Leighton back in the day when I was a teenage boy, he was so natural and made it look easy.
-
When as a kid, dad allowed you stay up to watch the darts and you didn't realise at the time you was watching two legends of the sport.
-
It was 40 years ago today that the late Leighton Rees became Darts's first ever world champion
-
This was the time when we were all down the local playing darts so mush was the influence of these players they put darts on the map
-
LR was one of the great dart players..
-
He had to give Alen Evans half the winnings because they would always share the prize money in every event they played together.
-
the late great leighton rees and stoneface john lowe with sid waddell commentating
-
Back when they went for the bulls eye, great darts.
-
Quick shake of the hand no hugging in those days.
-
(Going by this new handle now, so same guy). Nice that you've got those Lowe darts, mate! (I like bullet darts but I can't throw with anything that isn't knurled, or they slip right out of my fingers.) One thing I noticed about Lowe that surprised me (the first time I saw him throwing from a head-on angle) was that he sights the board with his darting hand placed over to the left.
-
sid was amazingly restrained !!
-
What a comb over !
-
Leighton Rees is a true legend of the sport. Is that Sid Wadell comentating?
-
I think it would be impossible to go against Lowe and Hankey in terms of smoothness of action (good call), but Beaton in the top three? I appreciate his action is smoother than someone like Ceri Morgan's, and don't get me wrong, I like his style, but surely he doesn't compare with the likes of Lowe and Hankey when it comes to a fluid, aesthetically pleasing throw.

@rtzify Yes, we go way back, first met them around 1983, cracking character.
-
At 2.54 Sid Wadell said "it bounced out of the bull." Rees was nowhere near the fucking bull!
