Theorists, do you remember the old Gatorade commercials where people would SWEAT Gatorade? I sure do. Now that I have a channel dedicated to all things food related, it's time to find out if those commercials were lying to us all along. Can you really sweat Gatorade from your skin? How much Gatorade would you have to drink to make that happen? Drink up, Theorists, because this is a weird one!

When this channel started, I thought “how the heck would you make theories about food” and to this day i regret saying that. Good job MatPat, for making tons of theories about food.

Also this channel makes me hungry :p

The orange skin thing happened to my mom when I was a kid! She was constantly eating carrots as a snack and we noticed a slight orange tint. She cut back and it went away pretty quickly.
  • As a baby I had orange skin! I ate so many veggies that my skin turned orange. At the time my family was stationed in Germany. She freaked out, being a new mom and all, and took me to the doctor. It's a good story to look back and laugh at now.
  • As someone who really loves red velvet cake, I can definitely sympathize with the kids and parents from the berry cereal part. Nothing more horrifying than thinking your dying of internal bleeding when you're just suffering from a bit too much food dyeing instead.

When I was a baby, I was a big fan of carrot baby food (as well as some of the other orange ones like mango). My parents have pictures of me with a little orange nose. 😂
  • Fun fact, blueberry smoothies that use actual blueberries will do the "turn your poo green" thing, too! The reason for this is because of Anthocyanins, which are actually usable as a pH indicator. They're bluish-purple when their surroundings are acidic, but a dull forest green color when their surroundings are alkaline. And wouldn't you know it, but the intestines use alkaline substances to protect themselves by neutralizing the stomach acid that your body uses to digest your food.

"Did you know your skin can turn orange if you have too many carrots?"

Yes. It was an entire episode of The Magic School Bus.

The carrot thing happened to my coworker when she was pregnant with her twins. She’d eat a whole bag of baby carrots over the course of our shift.

Ironically, both girls are allergic to carrots 🤣

8:24 My little brother actually swallowed one of those Lego tires when I was 4 and he was a few months old. It did actually come out the other end 2 days later with no physical damage done to it, just that it had been through his digestive system.
  • Hey MatPat, I have an idea for a Food Theory. Is it possible to survive by just the water in food and not drinking any water? Which foods would be best for this scenario and would there be any consequences for eating too much too meet your water intake needs?

Hey Mat! I'm gluten intolerant and made gluten free pancakes the other night. However I didn't have regular sugar so I used brown sugar instead. Then I didn't have milk so I mixed water with sour cream. It came out great.

What I am saying is you should have a test where you make food with ONLY substitutions and see how far you can take it without people noticing.

Man, I typically just listen to these like a podcast while I work

Having actually watched this one, have the lil animated bits always been so awesome?! 😹 The lil blue dye fella committing bodily damage, the running doctor… I was audibly chuckling a lot through this one!

Mr. Pat, you and your team do a great job making these videos educational and entertaining! Thank you :3

As a baby, my son''s favorite thing to eat was the carrot baby food, turning down pretty much anything else. Yeah, his skin turned a light orange. It looked a bit like jaundice and I freaked out, rushing him to the ER. After the scare was over, i recall that I could see the doctor and nurse holding back smirks while being polite, telling me I was just feeding him too much carrot.

I want to see an episode where Mat and Steph make sour candies at home in order to create the most sour candy ever and analyze what makes them so sour (citric acid, Vitamin C, etc.)

Actually I heard (from someone who likes to read studies a lot) that the name of Gatorade was because the sports team was called "Gator" and it was "aid" for them. So it was called Gatoraid but scared of legal implications, they changed it to Gatorade
  • If you drink maybe a cup or two of the lime lemon coolaid, and you will pee neon green very fast. Happens to me every time and the first time i was freaked out 🤣

The orange skin thing was me as a toddler! I was a very unfortunate baby so I developed many allergies and wasn't even able to drink my own mom's milk, so I had very expensive carrot based baby food. When I became old enough to also chew, I would eat boiled carrots. Not only did my skin turn orange, but so did my blonde hair at the time. Only once some allergies dissapeared and I was able to eat more did I finally turn back to a normal not orange kid
