My son passed away a few weeks ago and he sung Johny Cash songs so im setting here listening and tearing up and thinking about him a kid early years and lost his life rest in peace son dad loves and misses you so much

There's so much emotion packed in here. Like the little half-laugh embedded in "get tough or die". You don't hear that kind of thing anymore.
-
My grandpa would always play this when we were kids. Pure nostalgia
-
When I was little (less than 10) my mom played this song for me. I'm over 20 now (really still a kid but older to be sure) and I still love this song. Probably my favorite country song.

Somebody wrote these lyrics but it was Cash's melody. He had never playef it before and wasn't sure he was going to play it at the prison. But he figured the boys would like it, so they played a melody and Johnny basically recited it. It was the only recording of this song he did. There is an interview out there where he talks about it.
