Really impressive. At this level, defenses are so developed, athletes are so quick and powerful, grip fighting so intense, video scouting that widespread, that these ippons mean that much more. Some are so clean it’s amazing. Very well done presentation. 😊

The one thing I'm noticing is that France takes judo very seriously.

Thanks for all the amazing videos you made this year!! God knows how long each one takes to make!

In my athlete days I did yoko tomoenage across my body like Muruyama does (well obviously not as well LOL) using both my legs to rotate uke to his back. I also would switch from standard tomoenage to the side by using my outside leg to catch their shin and spin them to the side to their back if they started to cartwheel out of my throw. That was the beginning of the development of the kind of odd way to do the throw for me. My current instructor (who was a competitor in my club when I was a child) also did it cross-body but I never saw him do it growing up so I'm not sure how he came to it. I've tried to work on the traditional yoko tomoenage and the mechanics of it don't make sense to my body and movement style. Kawabata just posted a video of him teaching it at San Jose University so I may try how he shows it. Awesome throw and I love Muruyama's judo.
  • Great video with really nice ippons. Perfect choice of 2023 selections. Well done ... and congrats for passing 100K !! Cheers ...

Excellent video. Some spectacular ippons. My favourites are Hifumi ABE's Osoto Gari, Uta ABE's Koshi Garuma and NAGAYAMA's Tsuri Komi Goshi. Too many to mention others, but I am not a fan of the more "power based" throws used by Georgian and Uzb etc. judoka. Thanks for all your videos throughout this year. I enjoyed not only the content but your commentary and explanations. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you.

Tajima's throws were beautiful. Looked so clean and powerful. Same for Abe Uta. Something you'd see if you asked an artist make the most aesthetic throw.
  • the osoto counter from Messoud Driss the Algerian -73kg judoka is probably one of the best counters this year
