This song was written by Johnny Gentle. he played the roots of it to George Harrison & John Lennon in a hotel room in Inverness whilst The Beatles toured with him in May 1960. He was struggling with the middle eight and so John Lennon helped out inputting the lyrics "We know that we'll get by, just wait and see, just like the song tells us, the best things in life are free". The boy in the background on the 2nd photo shown (on a stage) is a 17 year old George Harrison!!

Think the photo at 28 + secs is from the Johnny Gentle & Group, at Alloa town hall May 1960 - as well as George who you can see, John, Paul & Pete Sutcliff played that tour - They were supportered that night by The Big Beat Combo which was Alex Harveys band, they also went out to Hamburg to do a residency later that year

The best things in life are free => Taken from Money That's What I Want, recorded by a Liverpool group, some time in 1963. Remember them ? :-)

Thanks a lt !! Looks as if Johnny could be not so gentle if he set his mind to it.
