Oreos are one of the most beloved snacks out there but did you know that they have a DARK history? Theorists, let's talk about Hydrox cookies. Oh, you don't know what those are? They were Oreos BEFORE Oreos. That's right! That classic sandwich cookie taste you love so much did NOT start with Oreos! What happened? Watch to find out!

This dude did a better job advertising Hydrox than their whole marketing team
  • @RexVenge95
Lol imagine Hydrox loyalists working under Oreos' parent company being all secretive and whispering to each other, "Hail Hydrox."

when i was a kid in the 90s i've ate imported cookie sandwiches once and never really realized it was Hydrox brand. then when Mondelez started officially importing Oreos to my country a few years later i always had that thought in my mind "i remember these used to taste better when i was a little kid". so it is funny that i realized just a couple of years ago that the cookie sandwich brand i ate that time as a little kid were actually Hydrox cookies. i wish Hydrox was still around, or more correctly - i wish Hydrox were sold more broadly and even globally. it is really difficult to get hold of them, especially because Mondelez are actively trying to push them away from literally every retailer.

Loved this story. I have an additional perspective for you. As a photographer. When making an image of food related stuff, the Oreo is really only one sided and thus boring. However [at the time this was revealed to me] Sunshine Hydrox offered you much more interesting compositions for making art. In this way: you could place the Sunshine or the Hydorx side of the cookie either both up Sunshine Sunshine or Hydrox Hydrox OR you could go Sunshine up in part of the image and Hydrox in the other part of the image. giving you more diversity in your creative project. So you have a Sunshine-Hydrox option for the image or just use the plain ole boring Oreo in your image.
  • Oreo is literally the guy who repeated your joke louder and became popular with everyone.

Oh boy, I can’t wait until we learn about the “secret history of Fanta” 💀.

6 episodes times 4 channels is crazy on it’s on because these are some of the best research videos I’ve seen on YouTube… put a two year old on top of that is just so impressive. What a good team!
  • To keep the Oreo theories going, here's something to consider: could Oreos being "Milk's favorite cookie" have something to do with the fact that you don't need milk to make Oreos? This came to me after I saw the ingredients used to make them and I thought, 'That's unusual for a cookie,' as you would usually expect for every cookie you eat to be made with milk. Or, at least, I did anyways.

I'm an E kind of guy. That's where every time you go into the kitchen you grab a couple hoping your family wont notice until one of your family members opens the package all the way and you realize you ate all of them

It always weirds me out how many of these older business stories involve friends or family betraying the other.

What does Matt Patt mean when he says he’s not building his channel with his personality, I swear I watch every vid for his personality 😂❤
  • @coldspoons3917
I’ve literally walked past these cookies in a Kroger and thought “Why does Oreo have so many ripoffs?” I now know who the imposter is
  • @googleitlol6590
The fact that MatPat has to clarify that ‘Kosherized’ is a real word makes me feel like while writing the script for this episode, him and Steph had a debate on whether or not it was the proper term.
  • Never heard of Hydrox but definitely going to check them out since they are a healthier cookie than oreo🥰 Thanks!🤝💖💛💚
  • @chllve
wait i have hydrox cookies in my house but only because my mother just likes them because "offbrand stuff taste better" but now i know OREO is the offbrand cookie at this point...😭
  • @alexwright3258
Personally, I throw my whole cookie into a glass of milk, wait approximately 8 seconds, fish it out with a spoon, eat it whole, and repeat the process in a trance like state until I eventually come to realizing I need a new package of oreos.
