  • This movie was trippy. The scene with Lena staring into the light had given me an existential crisis by itself. Gave me chills all throughout, 9/10 for me.
  • @espio194
The bear scene was fantastic and incredibly creepy.
  • something not mentioned here is that Annihilation has two meanings. Both of which are relevant noun: annihilation 1. complete destruction or obliteration. 2. the conversion of matter into energy
  • Cosmic horror is a rare thing to see done well. This movie was intense.
  • That Bear was so creepy and scary that it has a human like face on the left side, and has the ability to imitate human screams!
  • “Incomprehensibly beautiful ecological and genetic nightmare of extraterrestrial origins” What a luxurious sentence. I love it
  • The bear scene was the scariest thing I've seen in a long time.
  • This concept feels like something out of SCP
  • Man I loved this film! I was so disappointed it didn't get a cinematic release here in the UK. The lighthouse scene was just awesome. Plus this is a fine example of an all-female cast that didn't feel forced or contrived. I really hope they make the sequels but I don't think that's going to happen.
  • I watched this one yesterday and it was very, very good. IT left me with the sense of fear mixed with curiosity, like, I want to know more, what else could the shimmer create, the nature in it was beautifully grotesque, even the skeleton they found in the pool was somehow aesthetic in colours and shapes like Hieronymus Bosch and Salvador Dali did a collab on the scenery for this movie. Simply amazing.
  • I think there's a theme here about how when a landmark event happens in your life (or even simply the passage of time) you can deal with it in a number of ways besides self destruction. You can accept it gracefully, face it, fight it, etc. In the end, we all become different people, often unaware of the transformation.
  • The movie is basically about cancer. Everything in the shimmer is refracting and changing
  • It seems more like The Shimmer was a force of change, it breaks down, mixes and recombines everything in its influence. The changes are completely random and apparently in a constant stat of flux even after being supposedly being a new creature, like a part of a persons mind being fused into the altered bear as a part of its voice. This movie is a really disturbing take on how far you can change something till the boundaries of what things it used to be are no longer recognizable.
  • Like someone else said, this movie was about cancer. Cancer tends to mimic certain cells while it is spreading. Much like that creepy bear did when it mimicked that woman's screams to lure his prey.
  • I’ve been thinking about this movie in the shower ever since I watched it on a plane last month, and it just so happens that you uploaded something about it! Needless to say, I’m very happy about this!
  • I'm glad you mentioned the soundtrack because that's what really haunted me. I would love to learn more about how it was created and used.
  • The most terrifying words of the movie: "I don't know what it wants... or if it wants."
  • @TheJigma
That bear was honestly one of the scariest yet interesting things ive ever seen in a movie.
