Nice video john.... cool topic that i have never seen covered 👊👍
  • Well, this is a timely video - almost like you heard the question marbles rattling around in my skull last week.
  • @dmiroy
Appreciate you doing this. THANK YOU!
  • Someone needs to build one where the two layers are not glued together, allowing the top layer to move independently to the rubber mat

Hey Bandit if we are the reason the channel was created ... don’t tell them our better halves have banned us from using tools and flammable products because I thought this was video is our way back. #golfdiy 👍 Thanks for Sharing

The way you solve the tee chasing with BirTee is to tie a shoelace to the bottom of the tee and tuck it under the mat so the tee flies, but not very far and no wooden tee bits all over. Do not use a flat shoelace because they will wind up like mad - use a round lace and they do not wind up. Nice mat video - I make my hitting mats with this process and they are awesome!

Thanks for this! Hoping to build the perfect home practice setup. One interesting supplier is one that Michael Breed has mentioned on his show recently. They do lots of commercial work. Elite Synthetic Surfaces is their name, I believe. Haven't decided on my exact mat yet though.

Great vid John, many thanks for all the info. though it might have been a cool idea to mention that you may need to wear some form of safety headgear, for when you wife/partner/significant other realises that you have chopped up her favourite Yoga mat!🤦‍♂️
  • @Redneckasian69
This is a great idea being I already have the country club elite I think I’m going to add the yoga mat just for more shock absorption is a little thicker than the one you have here already but after hitting a while my wrist are a little sore
  • @drmrossing
I know I’m a few years late, doesn’t cutting out the yoga mat to make room for the cardboard/tape just remove all of the extra cushion right where you need it? If not, couldn’t you just use cardboard under the whole mat? And if he yoga mat is better than the cardboard, why not use a section of yoga mat wrapped in tape(to keep the tee from ripping through)?
  • Great video. I have a home skytrak setup, and as you know, you have to hit from a very similar spot each time. I have a hard mat now, and looking to get a more realistic feel. But, something that lasts also. You have any idea of how many iron hits this will take? Of course we aren't Great golfers, so we hit fat more than normal.. any input would be appreciated.
  • Hello and great video. It sounds like you have a lot of experience and time using this type of mat. Can you tell me if hitting of of this mat or any mat in general will create scuff marks or rub off the bottom of the club as compared to regular grass? Especially for fairway woods and hybrids. Thanks you for your time.
  • @seegarsmkr
John, do you allow for different surface types in the bay? Sandy type surface (very spongy) or thicker for rough simulation?
  • @jb48801
Just came accross this as i am looking into building my own mat, have you tested it with using 1 or 2 layers of carpet pad under the mat instead of yoga mat? any thoughts this was my first thought when i was thinking it through before i seen your video with the yoga mat
  • Nice mat on it's own. Accepts tees so I won't be drilling a hole in a $200 golf mat. Thanks for the info!
  • @rmljr52
Thanks. Very good information. The yoga mat you use is 1/4" thick. I am looking at one that is 5/8" thick. Is more better or would the mat become too spongy?
  • @ZoeGirl1031
can you putt on this mat or is it too soft for the ball to roll smoothly thru? i have a skytrak so I have to hit at the same spot everytime and when playing a round on The Golf Club we do putt (with 6 ft gimmes)
  • @holtzeee7364
I am sure you tried fiberbuilt in your testing. What were your thoughts on that and how does this compare? I like the injury prevention but feels ummm different let’s say at impact. Hard to describe. Might try making a hitting strip out of this to try.

Thanks John!! I'll call/text you (you've been warned lol)
