I hate when people call anyone under 6'2 a short king because jeez, how do you think actual short kings feel watching tall people get hyped up as short?!? 😭
  • @michaelell389
If Adam's a Short King than I'm an Emperor Hobbit at 5'4"

Adam, I'm going to choose to believe that the person commenting "least athletic person on YouTube" commented it with an air of irony, commenting not on how unimpressive they thought your physique to be, but instead how high the standard is of well-known creators who show themselves working out. I would think of it as a compliment--you're showing off your above-average body in a place where most people who would do the same are competitive athletes and bodybuilders.

that must have been a typo. i'm sure all those people were trying to call you a "short shorts king," because of the length of your shorts.
  • Adam, the “least athletic body on YouTube” comment was most likely gen z slang meant to compliment you by saying you’re still very athletic despite being a 40 something cooking YouTuber. It was a pretty common joke to make on the internet around when you and Dr. Mike did that collab.

Damn he really is financially stable being able to actually print out all those studies

The "least athletic body" thing was a compliment. It's saying the standard of fitness on youtube is so high (with so many fitness models, bodybuilders, ect) that someone with an athletic body like you is the least athletic. A bit like when some people say "least angry person in Hull" and show an extremely pissed off guy

By far the best argument I’ve ever heard about why the United States should adopt the metric system is “minimum height preference in heterosexual women for male partners.” In a population of men height is distributed along a bell curve with some men being very short and others very tall with the majority in the middle. In nations that use the metric system minimum height preference for men by women roughly matches the bell curve of male height distribution. But in the United States this is heavily skewed because of the “first digit bias” e.g. something being priced at $299 rather than $300. This causes women’s minimum height preference in the United States on the tall side to appear normal, but once it goes from 6’2”, 6’1”, 6’0” in height to 5’11”, 5’10”, 5’9” and lower the minimum height preference drops off a cliff significantly. This creates an artificial desire in a significant percentage of women who won’t date a man shorter than 6 feet tall. In the metric system, this does not occur because height is simply measured in centimeters with 6 feet to 5’11” being 183 cm to 182 cm in metric.

I like the ending: "You may not care at all about my feelings, and that's perfectly fine, but think about yours. If you have unrealistic expectations for me, you're going to have unrealistic expectations for yourself, and that's not going to end well for you." That's a great perspective to have. You're a little bit taller than myself and I know how insensitive people can be when commenting on people's height so sorry you had to deal with that. I think a big part of this is cultural and also generational. Whenever I travel to places closer to the equator where people tend to be shorter on average I get treated so much better and more fairly. It really makes me resent the culture where I'm from (the PNW). I say there's a generational aspect to it because I've been single and dating the last few years and I notice single women around my age (40) still really care about height and younger women have been much more open to dating men even men shorter than themselves. I know you're married but just thought I would report some progress there. I caught myself turning down or shying away from an insanely attractive woman that was interested in me because she was quite a bit taller than me and so I started going to therapy. I felt like an insecure asshole probably spreading more insecurity around.

Adam, your progression to wholesome "Dad content" is much appreciated

As a 5'3" male, yall average height guys who complain about being short can shove it.
  • @erzvolnes
I'm the shortest dude in my entire family - just barely scraping 5'3 (genuine 'short king' territory LOL), even my sister has a few inches of height on me. My mum is 4'8 so I guess it makes sense, but when you're this short it really does become obvious that some people see it as sort of an inherent fault, even subconsciously. Luckily I don't think it's affected my life in any serious way, so it's mostly just an interesting observation. Really cool to see the subject laid out as thoughtfully as you have!

Adam Ragusea shouting out Lindybeige. This is absolutely wonderful.
  • @TMinusRecords
Pretty incredible to do a meta analysis in the form of a breakfast vlog
  • I'm pretty sure the "least athletic body" comment didn't mean what you thought it meant. It's a meme format that essentially used you, a moderately muscular person, to say that everyone on yt is beefed out. At least that's how I would read it since that format is common in comment threads

Adam noooo "least athletic body on youtube" is a compliment!! It's a meme!! Like putting "weakest scottish man" on a video of a scot lifting wheights, implying that all scots are strong
  • Absolutely great video. Really loving the energy of the recent videos.
