South Africa has had a turbulent history of occupation, discrimination and violence against the black population. With the ANC in power and today in the post-Mandela era, the roles have been reversed. We see a true 'Black Economic Empowerment', in which the black people are favored in terms of housing and employment. The white middle class is slowly slipping into poverty, resulting in violence, excessive drug and alcohol abuse.
Barber Shop South Africa tells the story of this impoverished white middle class who decides to isolate himself from the outside world and settles in strict religious communities in the countryside.
Adri (36) is the white female hairdresser from Filadelfia Ark, a community West of Pretoria. She cuts her hair on a chair outside her bungalow. Her customers appreciate her gentle approach and visit her for an enjoyable chat. Filadelfia Ark has an almost paradisiacal setting, with lakes, animals and an outdoor dining area, but the community exudes a story of fear, exclusion, poverty and religion.

  • I see a lot of pity in the comments. This is one the few great things you'd find on internet. A camp of both refuge and rehabilitation that is neither a mental hospital or prison. These are not just whites who got poor but whites who got troubled by addiction and other things. Sometimes, being away from so much and being with people who have similar problems, such as yours, can cure you . Thank you, Dirk Van Vuuren, for what you're doing. I wish we had camps like this for our troubled youth (Amapara kanje) junkies I don't like some of their attitude, though. However, we are all disappointed about how South Africa is.

I am a South African, black as we are called or described, I am very impressed of how Oom Dirk is helping the poor afrikaaners speaking people in his farm. I so pray that people who are financially well off must come forward and do more to many economically and socially struggling people. However I have this to him , teach people or say true things about Yeshuah, and observe the true Shabbat according the Bible, love. Yeshuah died for all not for certain nation or tribe. The only way to can remove the curse on people is to be honest and love one another, apartheid is evil and satanic, and everyone who practice it is of the devil.

What struck me is how clean it is. There is no litter. Shows you it costs nothing to keep things clean

  • I agree no place for racism either way. There are good and bad people in any race, we are individuals. Jesus loves us all. Thank you for the farm owner to help these people

As a white south african this is called holding on to old ideas. Good that they are helping each other but change can only come about through intergration. They are stuck in a time loop. Broke my heart to hear this type of language and ideas. And i dont mean afrikaans i mean the derogatory remarks about our people. We still got a long way to go. Glad they have a place to feel safe sad they missing out on a wonderful united culture.

Heart warming how 1 man can give a little community hope. Thats all we need in the end. God works accross all boundries and races we r all his children.❤
  • 23:43 “A crocodile has its pride it won’t eat kaffers”. That is so sad can’t believe people are still holding on to the colour of one skin in this day and age there was no need for such racial words.

I'm 24 years and live in The Orchards, a suburb in the northern part of Pretoria. I've seen poor and destitute Afrikaners in Pretoria North and Pretoria West especially, where some live in informal settlements and are addicted to drugs and alcohol. But I've never seen or heard of Filedefia Ark; it's my first time seeing it, but I'm honestly not angered by its existence and the people who live there. I mostly feel pity for their living standards and ignorance to live amongst all South Africans of different races and backgrounds, as its causing them to be stagnant in all aspects. Obviously, Oom Dirk's got animosity towards the ANC government at the beginning of the new democracy for integrating black people into the economy and industries to empower them, but I dont think all those white people just got poor once the ANC got into power. They had to have been poor already towards the last years of apartheid, due to a number of factors, whether it be inequality amongst white people, single mother run homes, addiction, etc. I also do get what Oom Dirk says about how other white people and the churches have failed them, because some, if not most wealthier Afrikaners living in the North and East of Pretoria view those poor Pretoria West Afrikaners as "white trash" and different from them, so they aren't helping their fellow people either and sort of see them as failing to improve their living and economic situation, when its actually capitalism doing its job in favouring the rich. The good thing is though is these Afrikaners don't represent all Afrikaners, as do the wealthy ones. They dont even in believe in South Africa, so I see no point in trying to reason with them to stop being racist as the elders are too far gone. The young ones can change and if they can get into a good school, go to uni or get a job, they'll realize that how they were raised isn't helpful for them and society at large and we are stronger together when we see the humanity in each other and work towards a common goal 🤝.

This people worship me with their lips, but their heart are far from me. My prayer is for one united south africa where both the white live together in harmony, where the color of your skin does not determine your social lifestyle. A country where black is no better than white or vice versa, a country where everyone sees that we are better together, not against each other.

23:43 asseblief moet nie sê julle is Christene as julle so praat nie. Daar is absoluut geen rede vir die rassistiese taal nie. Ons is almal God se kinders wit, swart, indier, kleurling... ♥️🇿

What annoyed/amazed me is the heading of the video. Should it not rather be White Squatters. White under privaleged or anything else. What is the video about. Keeping the slogan APARTHEID alive or the challenges the people are facing.
  • @UpnAbout99
came across this by accident. well done Meneer. went to your website and i am impressed with your work. keep it up. im hoping to donate/assist in the near future. god bless
  • I truly appreciate oom dirk work. But for the old man living in a trailer calling us blacks kaffer and baboons jackals . Wow I can never forgive that. I still wish to visit this farm to come contribute my good. Under humanity. Not skin or anything. Because in the end we human. What makes us suffer is the definition n pride of skin tone .
