The galaxy really looks like they had a combat ship in mind but then decided to repurpose it as a cool looking modular civilian ship.
  • @BizzMRK
They really should consider adding atleast a very basic sickbay with a T3 med bay somewhere on the ship without being required to install an entire hospital into it.
  • @Berowalt29
In the recent citizencon CIG stated that the Galaxy will recieve a base building module to build S-L sized buildings, which might give it an edge when basebuilding becomes a thing in 4-6 years
  • @thygeek
The Galaxy with a cargo module actually has the same scu capacity of the Caterpillar because it also has 64 scu on its own. 64+512=576
  • @kender121
for the rooms and layout, there was one lil issue, the hangar is 2 floors high, the ship has 2 decks so both plans and layouts are valid. the modular room is 1 floor high and in the lower section of the ship

I really hope we get a bespoke RSI "shuttle" at some point, a kin to the Pisces. I like to keep mothership and shuttle within the same manufacturer.
  • would be nice to have MFDs with cameras under the ship for landing. Almost like backup cameras on cars today
  • At $350, I think the Endeavor is the better base model ship. And there was no mention of the modules for the Carrack.
  • I got the complete pack because it’s really everything I want in a ship. A bit of a monocle moment, but I’m happy to wait

Great for Carrack loaner. Great CCU to hold for concept inflation. As a ship, it is a tradeoff. Catepillar competition. We need to see what modules they finally bring to the Cat.
  • @shadow7037932
I just got the $5 CCU from the Valk to this. I'll decide to get this once it's flyable. At least I've locked in the price now.
  • @gregbagel791
If this ship had one more top mounted back turret, it could be a solid bounty hunting ship for a small crew or a good support frigate to pair with a fleet with a Polaris, Perseus, and hammerhead
  • I decided to pull the trigger on the complete pack for now. Even if I decide to go back later and get some combination of other ships - a refinery ship, a Hull C, and an Apollo, as you mention - for now the modular concept intrigues me and I do like the RSI aesthetic and the general look of the ship itself.
  • Part of the problem is that CIG keeps adding ships with features that don't exist in game yet. If mobile refining was a thing it would be much easier to justify the Galaxy on the refining module alone, especially of you could refine quantanium on the spot and throw it into the ship fuel tanks for usage. They have all these great ideas for modularity and the modules don't do a damn thing yet.

Note that you can lock in the price of the concept price of $350 for as little as $5. You buy a token upgrade from a from some ship to the Galaxy costing you only the difference between the two ships. To get the $5 token you pick a ship that's worth $345 (You do not need to own this ship or buy in "right now") and then upgrade to the galaxy, giving you a upgrade token in your hanger. If shit goes badly for the game in the future your only out $5 instead of $350.
  • @Hawkeye6941
First I got a ccu for 5 bucks for this ship(Valkyrie to Galaxy)and agree with the questions that we don't have answers to. But I would compare this more to the caterpillar. Similar size and similar functions for they both have modules, similar price. Galaxy has one big modules vs the cat 4 small modules. The carrack is a different breed.
  • I passed this one despite how much I like the idea and looks. I'll re-evaluate after the Q&A drops but don't see anything that could alter my opinion in the Spectrum thread. The loadout seemed confused with weak turret placement and undersized shield that left it in the victim ship realm. And if you don't get all the modules you'd be better off buying just the specialized profession ships like a C2 for cargo since they're better in every way. Without a module it's little more than a flying hangar for a snub. And if you care about LTI you need to get the 600+ euro complete pack before the concept reveal sale ends. Gonna grab a couple of cheap upgrades to speculate on the CCU chaining minigame though. What you didn't mention in the end was that the Carrack also has three planned modules and that the Endeavour Hope hospital ship is currently in the price range of the Galaxy and comes with a bigger hangar and bigger medical facilities.
  • the most unpleasant thing is if, for the sake of new sales, the old concepts of modular ships will be limited in their modularity
