I'm 18 and just started my gap year full of crazy mind-opening experiences, and I got so excited when you talked about a gift-based economy!! I just got back from Burning Man 2023, and while it definitely has its issues, a complete gift-based economy is one of the coolest aspects of the city. There are ten principles, and three are "Radical Self Reliance," "Decommodification," and "Gifting." So you are in charge of making sure you have what you need, and then you come to the city prepared to gift your energy and resources to others without expecting anything in return. You can't buy anything but ice the entire time you are there! It was really beautiful because everyone felt so grateful and connected, and whenever anyone approached you, it was because they were trying to do something for you, not get something from you.

I honestly love these Post-grad videos! I’m going to be graduating next year and I’m terrified of being out of routine, but this video is making me feel a lot better about it all! 😊
  • @callielee
easing back into these simple little routines is part of what makes summer so difficult yet so sweet <3 sending you all of the love xx

Even though you didn’t have your usual porridge, this video still felt so authentically you! And I love how you’re prioritising healthy aspects in your routine, I’m having this summer off from work and am also trying to focus on building such habits, even though it’s hard sometimes to stick to them or not feel like a failure when things don’t go as planned. Something I read lately, is that building good routines is not an overnight thing, instead it almost feels unnoticeable. Results don’t show quickly. However, it’s important that you trust Time as your friend, instead of enemy. Overtime, benefits will show from putting in those daily efforts. Every choice you made for you, DOES MATTER! Anyway, thanks a lot for making this video, I loved it!💚💚

Enjoy your Vipassana Jade, with whatever comes up ❤ Embrace the experience. I love the extra laughter at 13:13 ❤ Lots of love!
  • I love watching your videos Jade. You're genuinely such an icon and model ❤ I hope you find your way out through this crisis you're experiencing and that your life really blossoms going forwards!!! Sending love from the UK!!!
  • It’s very cool you have broken through old stereotypes of what university is supposed to be and what work is. The idea of “everyone needing” to have an old fashioned “9-5” job is an outdated and narrow concept. You have more influence on people throughout the globe than so many people in regular jobs, so much more power, and you do it well. Good to see you charge forth doing things in your own way despite external projections. To each their own. Best wishes to you! 🍀

I can't wait to see you get back from the retreat. I've done a couple of vipassana retreats and the silence was the easiest part of it!! I remember thinking I just experienced truth, like to comprehend impermanence but by feeling it through the body. Lots of love Jade!! What an exciting time of infinite posibilities you are living😍
  • @millyd9481
jade, you are super positive and lovely!! Hoping to have your mindset for my alevels to begin, and beyond academia

That book sounds lovely, i love how food can be considered gifts. I always find that the best and most rewarding meals are those in which ive been involved in the process of getting the food, through gardening or harvesting, even if its just to get fresh herbs.

Honestly I’m so inspired by you Jade, you always do you and that’s what inspires me too. You appreciate all the little things and by doing that and putting it on here and on your platform you’ve taught me and probably many others to do the same :) thankyou 🫰⭐️🌸

I’m currently trying to have a good summer but I’m taking two accelerated summer classes to finish up at Community College before I transfer to University this fall. Let’s just say I’m getting burned out 😮‍💨 Your videos always help keep me motivated, thank you for that ❤
  • @sharvaripatil1966
This video has inspired me to try and create some healing and rest in my summer because I’m also really really burnt out after uni and a tough internship.❤
  • @strawbxrries.mp32
aaaah I’m so happy you’re reading Braiding Sweetgrass! I read it last autumn in an English course on understanding contemporary indigenous voices and it was absolutely beautiful. Much love from Canada 💛

You've just inspired me to go look into this sort of retreat, I'll be excited to hear your experience goes! And when you mentioned about leaving early and said we have to embrace our failures...I agree absolutely that we have to embrace our failures because we as humans aren't perfect, but I don't think leaving a 10-day, 12-hours-a-day meditation retreat early should automatically be considered a failure? Wouldn't that be similar to saying someone who is a runner, loves running, does it every day, but then signs up for an ultra marathon and has to stop because it's above what they are capable of at the time...would that stopping be a failure? I don't think so...but it definitely makes me consider what is considered "failing" as opposed to "succeeding" and who is setting that threshold. This is my own opinion, but I think if you push yourself as far as you can, and successfully disconnect and ground yourself, then it doesn't matter if pushing yourself as far as you can crosses the threshold of 10 days. I think whatever point is the furthest you can go, whether it is as far as you thought you could go, or shorter, or further, would be a success. 🙂 There's a YouTuber I love called Eva zu Beck, and she published a video about her quitting this run she'd set herself to; she's a traveler and a runner, but on this one intense run around a mountain (I think spanning 2 or 3 days, she had to set up camp) she had to make the tough call to turn around. She shared some valuable insights, I think, on what it means to quit, and that quitting does not equal failure. It's helped me keep some perspective on things, as well. Anyways. Just some thoughts. Wishing the best for you, Jade!
  • So happy to see a new video 🥹 it's always the best Jade 💗 ! Thank you so much for everything :)

Just an advice because I know how important health is to you too: As much as I can understand that it's easier to make your bed first thing in the morning, it is actually very important, to give our mattress and bedding some time to air out before making the bed. in order to fight moisture and dust mites. Lots of love <3
