In the latest DF Direct Weekly, we take a very early first look at FSR 3.1's improved spatial upscaling, which 'dropped' just prior to recording. The team discuss Capcom's reveal of a NEW Dead Rising remaster/remake, while we have first impressions on a potentially game-changing patch for Dragon's Dogma 2. And just why is PlayStation 5 so technically competitive with Xbox Series X, despite having less horsepower? It's been a mystery for years, but we may finally have some answers.

"toning down the harshness of negative reviews". Please don't. If there are issues with game performance then it needs to be said. God knows noone else seems to tell us viewers about them
  • @Saif0412
Totally agree with Alex, charging 70 bucks and expecting gamers to put up with a technically poor performing or broken game is ridiculous.
  • @JuliaM.Minter
Yup, I'm tired to see FromSoft getting pass on the same mistakes they make for years...
  • @bab027
I love how all 3 of them basically just agreed to the fact that Elden Ring issues can be fixed easily, but the publisher just won’t fix it.
  • @SanoDragoon
From Software isn't above criticism, and we shouldn't pretend that they are because, ultimately, we are paying the price they ask for their product.
  • Whoever told Alex to not be so harsh about Elden Rings PC performance because they find the game fun should just keep their opinion to themself. Fun is subjective performance isn’t and AAA games releasing with poor performance on PC needs to stop. They’re charging too much for this to be acceptable
  • Let's recap on Elden Ring on the DLC release: Console: 1) fps is just unstable in every mode despite the reality that, literally all they'd have to do is scale back whatever it is they are using for upscaling & maybe cut back on some foliage 2) poorly optimized RT (this is consistent across the board) that eviscerates console performance 3) so stuttery overall that certain people justify using the ps4 version on ps5 PC: 1) no way to manipulate framerate caps or go above 60fps 2) janky-ass RT implementation that can look good in certain areas for a huge fps hit, and then in others do almost nothing except AO for no or almost no FPS hit 3) absolutely zero upscaling capability in spite of the janky RT that just eviscerates performance on all but the absolute top-tier GPUs 4) weird freezes on certain hardware (maybe all hardware, who knows, but I've noticed it & Alex points it out as well on diff specs) And all of this nearly 2 1/2 years after release with a near full-price DLC release and we're all supposed to just say nothing because FromSoft is your boyfriend? They aren't even trying, man. I'm sorry I have to tell you, but you are in an abusive relationship. Maybe if you did stand up for yourself things might get better... I'm so not surprised this is the response to serious crticism of anything FromSoft touches at this point. Like, it's hilarious at this point, this isn't even talking about the freaking gameplay and people still feel the need to white-knight for something that is literally observable objective reality that can be represented with data... Nobody is saying you aren't allowed to enjoy the game and because it's a juttery mess you should hate the game... They're observing how it performs on various hardware & reporting on it, as people expect them to. Both Capcom & Team Ninja/Koei Tecmo can patch their janky in-house engine releases after the fact (Dragons Dogma 2 & Wo Long) to include features from this decade and fix optimization, but FromSoft can't? We just have to accept this because it's FromSoft? It's 100% legitimate to ask 'why not' because frankly there isn't a clear answer except perhaps 'because everyone will forgive them anyway', which is sad and worse for everyone. I like FromSoft games, that's why it sucks so much every time I play Elden Ring and think, "man, this experience could be so much better if they just gave one small fraction of a fuck"
  • @biscuitz12
Your critique wasn't harsh it was on point it was a reflection of the product but when you're an industry darling fans will come at you in order to support the product. All simply because they liked it so should you. I've seen this play out with devices software Etc name it 1:11:46
  • @merk2364
The fact that elden ring launched with those stuttering issues at all is pretty inexcusable, but now that we're 2 years after the fact with a new expansion where they invested none of their resources in fixing as the guys said low hanging fruit is just insulting quite frankly. I don't even dislike elden ring, but honestly its technical state should damage its rep alot more than it does.
  • I don't understand why the Fromsoft bootlickers have to comment on you guys doing your jobs. Alex was harsh, but rightfully so. It's insane how Capcom is fixing DD2, which released after Elden Ring, while Fromsoft does nothing to improve the technical side. They are not a small indie company. We shouldn't defend corporations. All the money and sales they have made, should be invested to improve the experience for their players. We are paying for the game, so expectations are not unreasonable for the money. I am glad you guys are vocal about these issues, since too many people are in denial, and can't seem to seperate the technical side from the content side.
  • @goob8945
I think Capcom called it a Deluxe Remaster just so they can call it DR:DR
  • @110pergenuine
Thank you for being upfront about your criticism on bigger game studios not taking performance seriously. Gamers become so blindly loyal, that they will defend problems until the end of time. Because they “personally” didn’t care about poor optimization. Also, they seem to forget it’s another persons opinion, and they aren’t required to watch it, or agree with it.
  • @SIXminWHISTLE
Capcom Vancouver died after Dead Rising 4 flopped. They lasted a year to make the PS4 update for the game, and a bad mobile Puzzle Fighter game. DR2 was on MT Framework but Inafune was working on that game. For DR3 and 4, they were using something internal called Forge Engine I think.
  • @retrosean199
I think when it comes to the way Capcom does 'remasters' -- if it's just the old game but with minor updates they call it "HD". Here with Dead Rising they are calling it "Remastered" because of updating the assets but the game has the same structure. And then they call something a remake when it's a "reimagining" of the project.
  • I played Forza Horizon 4 only via game pass and bought some DLCs later. A couple of days ago MS offered me a key for the game itself (for free) in order to not lose the ability to play my bought DLCs.
  • @Alexand3ry
48:30 - specifically on the price of Forza Horizon 4, the Ultimate edition with all meaningful DLC is on deep sale on Steam (15 USD before sales tax / 17 GBP after it), and Microsoft have also announced it will go on deep sale on the Xbox and Microsoft stores from 14th July. So they are both deeply discounting, and telling us what date that's coming. The game is very very worth picking up at those prices.

I really appreciate DF speaking out on game preservation. I really wish we could find a way to preserve games.
