John Fogerty performs "Proud Mary" live at the Farm Aid concert in Tinley Park, Illinois on October 4, 1997. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

John Fogerty was a brilliant composer, singer and guitarist. His live concerts were superb. Credence Clearwater Revival would have never made it without him. PROUD MARY is a classic, but UP AROUND THE BEND would bring crowds to their feet.

I go back to 1969, me a 14 yo kid when first heard CCR, fell in love with them, to me the best group ever in existence. I planted a good musical seed on my son, this coming June we'll be watching John Fogerty's concert in Madrid, God permiting it.

He was the master of the simple and catchy rock riff and economical solo. I heard on a documentary Prince saying this was the first guitar song he learned. And the riff was what me me learn to play the guitar all those years ago.
