Mucus, or snot, may have a bad rep, but it’s actually good for your health. Mucus helps to lubricate and protect your body from infections, foreign invaders, and inflammation, so whenever you feel congested, it’s actually your body trying to protect you. There is a point, however, where mucus can signal something abnormal, and you’ll be able to tell by its color. Tune in to find out when it’s time to see a doctor and what mucus says about your health.

My mom who was a nurse would always yell "WHAT COLOR IS IT?!?" 🤣 Because "Clear is allergies, so I was "in the clear" to go to school", Yellow is a virus so no saying "hello to anyone!", and Green in a sinus infection, so suck it up, here are some antibiotics". 🤷‍♀ She was pretty straight forward that one.

After recovering from COVID, I wonder if others have experienced dark yellow or even brown mucus for many days.
  • I am surprised that a Sinus infection or Upper Respiratory Infection were not mentioned. But these two are also possible reasons. People who get a nasty Sinus Infection, their nose will bleed and the sinus pressure is very intense. Dark brown. Mucus can be an indication of an upper respiratory infection.

As someone who has hay fever, I'll tell you its common to have most colours and types of mucus, even the occasional nose bleed. Sometimes i get it very severe and can hardly breathe. A day or 2 later, this constant stream of yellow and green snot follows. A load of other wierd symptoms follow along too but still feel fine to an extent. Anyone with hayfever will know what im on about
  • Answers to a group of questions I always ask myself. Thank you!

Fun fact: your stomach produces a new layer of mucus every week otherwise it'll digest itself
