I love the transition of this song. It begins slow and melancholic and becomes straight heavy metal at the end. A masterpiece

One is one of my favorite Metallica songs ever. I love the build it has from going all calm and catchy to sounding like war hell.

"Darkness, imprisoning me..." These lyrics... they resonate so much with me. My favorite Metallica song, ever.

This song is a kind of Bohemian Rhapsody of Heavy Metal. One, Master Of Puppets and Hallowed Be Thy Name are probably the three best crafted songs in Metal history. Pure art, absolute masterpiece!
  • Can't wait to see them in 2024, I got the 2 day ticket for Christmas
  • I played this outloud at work and a bunch of drunk guys were like "woooo metallica!!!!". This is definitely a favourite amongst cultured people

Kirk Hammett's solo is such an essential voice in the song, so awesome

"You can't hear bass in metal" Metallica: You're goddamn right
  • I can't remember anything Can't tell if this is true or dream Deep down inside I feel to scream This terrible silence stops me Now that the war is through with me I'm waking up, I cannot see That there's not much left of me Nothing is real but pain now Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please, God, wake me Back in the womb it's much too real In pumps life that I must feel But can't look forward to reveal Look to the time when I'll live Fed through the tube that sticks in me Just like a wartime novelty Tied to machines that make me be Cut this life off from me Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please, God, wake me Now the world is gone, I'm just one Oh God, help me Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please, God, help me Darkness imprisoning me All that I see Absolute horror I cannot live I cannot die Trapped in myself Body my holding cell Landmine has taken my sight Taken my speech Taken my hearing Taken my arms Taken my legs Taken my soul Left me with life in hell

This is the best metal song ever released imo. It has literally everything and the slow build up makes the breakdown actually insane when you get to it.

This is literally one of the best songs all time all genres. Extremelly well composed, super interesting story and storytelling with instruments, very experimental and unique. This is one of these songs that are kinda other level, like actual piece of high end art that you can appreciate on so many levels. I used to be an extreme metallica fan back in the days when i was a teenager and I was thinking this is best song ever. Now I appreciate alot of other music from various genres, heard lots of masterpieces of other genres, my musical taste expanded and I would say im alot more experienced with music in general, but I think i would still say that this is a best song ever written, even if I dont really listen to it often nowadays.

That machine gun riff is possibly my most favorite Metallica moment of all time
