In societal breakdown, cash is worthless. Gold drops to little worth. Alcohol, drugs, food, soap clothing etc. becomes what is highly valued.

UK has some really bad anti-encryption laws, with their online safety bill. They are also pushing for mandatory identity verification for websites as a result, which would probably effect servers hosted in their country as a result.

Wendell describing the reason why schools don't challenge kids for the first 18 years of their lives. It's not a parodox it's by design.

Thanks very much for bringing attention to Apple’s ban on VPN apps in Russia! Not a clue what Apple’s deal is recently, with them supposedly out of Russia yet still catering to the gov-t’s whims.

I live in a rather small mountain valley. the muni here has let the population double in 10 years with dense houses. Condos and apartments. Trouble is now when there is an inversion any 2 story house in the valley is filled with car exhaust so thick you can't breath. Last for days to weeks. I couldn't go down or up 12 stairs without falling to my knees out of breath. This has gone on now for 5 years. Don't know how cities are going to deal with this as they make housing more dense.
  • Saying that cars aren't reliable anymore is kinda bs. The most reliable cars (Honda, Volvo, Toyota, Ford trucks) aren't as good as they used to be. But the average is better than ever before. And not by a small amount, the average is a lot better. The problem is that they're less repairable. Try repairing a new Mercedes without dealer computer tools.

Here in Australia places like Temu is just how people do online purchasing. We just have crap retail options and when it comes to getting what Temu or Amazon or whoever offers, its all coming from China ripoff stores anyway, just a extra middleman in between. Australia makes nothing anymore!
