Its unfortunate that when MGSV got approved Konami explicitly denied any licensing for guns, so the team had to make semi-alike weapons that were period appropriate. Kojima is known for trying to make things accurate, so everything being "slightly off" probably was frustrating for him too

The ricochet effect with the revolver, I'd like to think, is a callback to the Revolver Ocelot boss fight in MGS1, as the bullets would bounce off of the walls in the room.

I desperately need Jonathan to do this with MGS3, if only for his reaction to Snake's drooling description of his custom 1911.

The water pistol is not a joke, it's a challenge. You can sneak up on enemies and trick them into dropping their weapon and surrender by threatening them. You get achievements if you finish ops this way. In one of the previous installments you could use a banana for the same challenge, but the water pistol also allows the player to destroy electronic equipment by soaking it. ☺

19:40 "An oddly thoughtful and somewhat realistic edge to an absolutely absurd idea." I think that is very true for the MGS series as a whole really.

I'm really surprised Johnathan didnt bring up the Mateba revolver when talking about the Tornado. It seems like a pretty obvious reference to me.

You guys really need to find a cardboard box specialist now and I'd definitely love to see how Jonathan reacts to the codec calls with Sigint in MGS3.
  • @flaviens42
For the tranquilizer, if you don't shoot in the head it will not take immediate action and depending of the limb it will take more or less time. Still not realistic but a bit closer nonetheless.

Would love to see a reaction to Metal Gear Solid 4's weapons. So much customization and variety
  • The water pistol can be used to short various equipment throughout the game, like radios and antennas to quietly cut communications.

Oh excellent choice, I've always wondered why the guns in this game are so strange and mish-mashy, it's fun seeing Jonathan try and identify all the bits and pieces.
  • @cklibansky
The Tornado -6 revolver reminded me of the Chiappa Rhino. It fires at the 6 o'clock and is very chunky looking.
  • @Leiska27
I love that he keeps calling them "legally different" since licencing issues are the reason for why there aren't real world weapons in the later MGS games
  • "The ability...special ability that this particular weapon can ricochet bullets off walls. I'm not sure why it would be specific...why that would be specific as a trait." Because this is the greatest hand gun ever made. Six bullets. More than enough to kiII anything that moves.
  • @Kelvin_Foo
Funny, I always felt that the tranquilizer pistol was a stylized take on the Ruger Mk III or IV.
  • @iancorder6133
I want a part 2 because of the enormity of the guns available in this game. Plenty more to go in terms of everything.
  • @vicboos6737
You have no idea for how long I’ve been waiting for this, thank you
  • @brunomiiguel
Jonathan, the Tornado-6 revolver is a Mateba 2006m It's a signature revolver of one of Ghost in the Shell's main characters. Metal Gear Solid is somewhat inspired by GITS so that's likely where the idea of including such an obscure Italian revolver comes from
