  • The reason I don't like to reapply sunscreen is because it disgusts me to imagine how I'm mixing the dust that's been accumulated on my face with new layers of cream

If I would run a skincare company that has a sunscreen with a pump I would write on the bottle how much pump a 1/2 teaspoon is. It’s not that kind of a big deal and it would help so much. For other sunscreens I would make a cap with a line that shows how much sunscreen you should use.
  • I played this in full volume so that my boyfriend can hear because he hasn't been exposed to using sunscreen UNTIL we got together! When you mentioned the mistake of not using sunscreen even when it's cloudy, I screamed because he does that all the time and even tells me to do the same since the sun isn't out! Fortunately, he finally came around and only because his doctor told him he looks way older than his age. He was shocked and had a moment of clarity. LOL We've since done our skincare routine together and he's now very diligent on applying his sunscreen. Thank you so much for this video, it been so helpful for the both of us (even if I was religious with my sunscreen, knowing how to make my routine better is a life saver).
  • Really spoke about virtually all the mistakes one by one without forgetting even one. I don't see anyone speaking about all of these together.

One more thing. As a black person, most black people (mostly darkskins) think they do not need sunscreen. That is a MYTH please!!!😊
  • Sharing this with my Albinism groups! I especially like the tip about applying to hands and ankles, spots I often miss. I am currently travelling through Asia and brought Neutrogena and Blue Lizard with me. I also bought some SPF clothes from Coolibar, Uniqlo, Muji and Lululemon. I like the sleeves and gloves. Glad to see many people using parasols here.
  • I'm just 40 anf have worn spf since 16 and even though I'm very fair, apart from faint smile lines I'm proud of I've no other lines.while I'm not against aging,I don't wear anti aging skincare, my routine is basic,so the spf is definitely key!

I use Heliocare 360 pigment solution fluid followed by heliocare 360 colour gel oil free, just to give me a bit of colour after. I don’t mix them, I just use the heliocare colour after as a bit of foundation.
  • Love this video, Dr. Ellis! I measured my face, bought a gram scale, and figured out I need .8g of sunscreen for my face. Now I weigh all my sunscreens before I apply them and what shocked me is that .8g of most of my favorite sunscreens is closer to 1/8tsp and that I’d been heavily over-applying by going for 2 fingers or 1/4tsp. Kindofstephen has written some really interesting posts about density vs volume vs viscosity when it comes to sunscreen so I’m just glad to have my little gram scale and 1/4 and 1/8 tsp in the bathroom and make sure I’m getting that exact .8g for my face every day since the appearance and texture of sunscreens can be kinda deceiving as to their actual density

OMG! You are so right when you said that the old generations put moisturizer first and wait for the skin to absorb!!! I am part of this old generation and just now learned that it should go on top of everything else!!! And makes sense! Thanks for this!
  • Naked Sundays Collagen Glow 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 + is my absolute favourite holy grail daily sunscreen, Australian cruelty free vegan. I can only use mineral sunscreen and this one is so hydrating and no eye stinging.
  • I love that you said only applying to face big mistake. Face, neck, chest and hands if you really want to prevent that photoaging

I can't bring myself to reapply in the dead of winter when the UV index is 0 or 1 at noon and I'm at the office from 9 to 5, after applying two fingers in the am (while it's still dark out hehe). In the spring/summer I'll reapply at lunch before going out, and before going home. And if I'm outside all day I'll reapply every 2 hours or less because I have rosacea so I'm careful. But the fall and winter reapply rule is exhausting and I force myself I just stop applying any in the am, at all.
  • Thanks for this video! Living in Australia sunscreen is an absolute must, but reapplication, particularly over makeup isn’t easy. I recently tried a roll on for reapplication and haven’t looked back - it works! The roller ball doesn’t disturb foundation but still delivers a good amount of product. I then tap it into my foundation. It sinks in and you’re left with a great glow - voila! It’s fast and the packaging is small enough for most handbags too. (For context my foundation is Too Faced born this way and I reapply sunscreen with Ego Sun Sense Performance 50+ UVA & UVB & vitamin B3)
  • Amazing video! I was always curious as to whether thicker sunscreens require the same quantity as thinner ones to achieve the SPF rating and could rarely find information about it online. I also enjoy using a thinner layer of tinted sunscreen over my regular one because they either tend to be more expensive or look like foundation if applied liberally, but I was slightly concerned that this may negatively affect my SPF protection. This video addressed both of my questions very clearly! I really appreciate it!
  • I definitely can relate to the cost being a factor in how much I use. I tend to be a little light handed with my nicer sunscreens so I mainly use cheap sunscreens daily and then the nicer one for parties/dates.
  • Two of my current favorites are Black Girl Kids Sunscreen. It has a higher SPF and it’s less expensive then the adult version. Eucerin Age Defense. Love them both! I also like the Supergoop dupe unseen sunscreen at Trader Joe’s. It’s never in stock though 😩😩😩
  • I saw on an O Chem lecture that underapplying sunscreen gives you the SPF of the square root of the number on SPF, and an explanation that was super technical was given.
  • The colors of the fabrics also make a difference, if they are light colors they can let up to 75% more sunlight through than dark colors like black. Also the thickness of the fabrics, the thicker the greater protection, thin and light fabrics let a lot of sunlight through
