FIRST DRIVE: Ford GT Mk IV - $1.7m, 800bhp Ultimate American Supercar!

This is the ultimate incarnation of the third-generation Ford GT – and a homage to the Mk IV iteration of the original GT40, which won Le Mans in 1967.

Fittingly, this new Mk IV is a track-only, pseudo-race car, of which just 67 will be built, at a price of $1.7m each.

It shares its carbonfibre chassis with the GT road car and 2016 Le Mans-winning LMGTE Pro race car, but the brakes are new, the ‘longtail’ body is new and the EcoBoost V6 has been enlarged to 3.8 litres. Together with new turbos and a host of other engine changes, peak power rises to a plentiful 800bhp.

Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Contributing Editor, Jethro Bovingdon, to see if this swansong is worthy of its name…

I really enjoy these short videos you're doing at Top Gear now instead of trying to recreate the TV show.

  • @ZSMracing
They need to enter it in Le Mans 24 hour prototype like Chevy did with the zl1 nascar

  • @obsidian....
Finally - Jethro ftw . Please just have Jethro do all the content, especially when driving is involved... and skip all the writers/presenters who lack any skill behind the wheel 🙏

This really makes me miss Chris Harris. He would have gave it the beans 😂
  • @MrLathor
Not surprising how much capability they were able to squeeze so much out of the GT. It had some of the best fundamentals of any supercar between the aero efficiency and chassis.

Yooo Calabogie! Love to see it! GGs
  • @namelesshorsey
I have a scale model of the road car, bought it in 2016 cuz I thought it looked so futuristic... And it still does! Absolute dream car.
  • @nickthaskater
Ford is capable of cars like this, and then they build a 4,000 pound Mustang...
  • @phrinj
The color, livery, and body design from the thumbnail are one of the coolest looking cars I've ever seen.
