Railroad lumber is soaked with a highly flammable and TOXIC chemical called creosote. Inhalation of smoke from burning creosote, or even contact with your skin, could cause serious health problems.
I present this video for entertainment purposes only, and I do not recommend that anyone practice firecraft with this material.
That said, in an emergency situation, one might very well be able to find a railroad track in an area where firewood is sparse. In that case, I recommend only that one follow the track to find help.
