Hi Tab it’s everything from chocolate, caffeine, sugar, alcohol, weight gain, stress, spicy foods, that can bring on hot flashes! Unfortunately water does help with hot flashes but of course it makes you pee. I’m having one right now while typing this text! 😊 everyone stay encouraged it’s a process we can get through this.

I had a hysterectomy at 23 yrs old & hot flashes started immediately. Go to the baking aisle of your local grocery store get some peppermint oil. Put a dab behind each ear & pulse points at the onset of a hot flash. Thank me later😉
  • Thank you Tab and everyone leaving comments and sharing !!!!!! I was so distressed about this experience!!!!!Helps to know that you are not alone! ❤

Hi Tab! Love that you're sharing your Journey. As a Holistic Functional Nutritionist who is also in perimenopause, I will encourage you unfortunately that any food or drink that increases dehydration (i.e alcohol, caffeinated drinks or food) may increase your hot flashes. Most of us don't realize that the more you experience hot flashes with overall body temperature increases, you are losing ELECTROLYTES and minerals. Replacing them is essential everyday. So Not by solely drinking water but adding in those electrolytes in abundance will help. Continuing to eat mineral rich foods, for calcium, magnesium, Sodium, chloride, and potassium is a must and so helpful! The recommended amount of Potassium daily normally is a whooping 4,700mg for adults, so this no joke. Trace Mineral concentrace drops are a great start. They can be added to your water and smoothies, etc. Hang in there! There's beauty and knowledge in every path set by our Creator! ❤
  • I'm going through it. I'm so excited not to be going through this alone. I love you. Thank you. You all are saving my husband's sanity.

Welcome to the change 😊. I’m 61 and this journey is real. Mine started in mid-late 40’s. Please know that each journey is different. I keep my hair twisted (only letting it down primarily for important meetings) & at night wear a satin scarf with an opening on top so my head can breathe. Only thing about the pellets is that you cannot control the amount on a daily basis and our hormones can fluctuate during the period of time you have it inserted. Chocolate and red wine, gurlll that is the recipe for hot flashes / night sweats. There is a difference between flashes and night sweats. Both can be awful, but those night sweats leave your sheets wet and you sleepless which messes with every aspect of life 😅. Explore all HRT options before committing. Also make sure you are thoroughly tested either via blood or saliva. Oh, lastly get all of your hormones checked together if possible, including your thyroid levels so the doctor can see the full picture. I recommend seeing functional medicine doctors during this time of life because the look at the whole body. Practicing mindfulness 🧘🏽‍♀️ and exercise help tremendously. I know you’re already eating healthy. ❤

Hi Tab. I love you so much! Your content is forever blessing me, I mean it’s always on time! I am 41 years old and I’m almost 90% positive that I’m perimenopausal. I’ve had unexplainable weight gain, mood swings, forgetfulness, night sweats and fatigue just to name a few symptoms because the list goes on. Whew chile, it’s rough. I’m so appreciative for your candid honesty around the topic. So many women suffer in silence but not you, and I love you for sharing your journey. It allows me to speak about peri more freely. I love you for adding a some humor to a tough and sometimes unpleasant topic. Love you and keep the conversation going ❤.

Tab here is something no one talks about: When you think your period is over...be careful because there will be a final gush you will not be expecting. It can come at anytime and cause embarrassment if you aren't at home when it happens. Caught off guard, you can mess up an outfit! You think your period is over then this happens and it can be alarming because you're not expecting it....then it's stops as suddenly as it starts. Know that this is normal. ❤

Hey @iamtabithabrown gurrrrrl when you said you had both dark chocolate AND red wine TOGETHER…I felt myself getting hot. I’m 55 and have been dealing with this since my early 40s. I’ve learned that chocolate, red wine and cheese turn me into one of those old school gas space heaters, lol. My husband says he can feel the heat coming off my body half way across the bed. It don’t matter what time of the month it is, if I eat those things, the blaze is coming. And I’m natural too but now because of Meno (Peri swapped placed with her big sister) I can’t cover my entire head, I get too hot. So I have to wrap my head with the top of my hair exposed to release the SOME of the heat. I still be hot, but I don’t feel like I’m sitting under a dryer while I’m sleep. I have no answers for all the peeing causing I get up at LEAST 3 times a night no matter how much or little l’ve consumed and it don’t matter when I consumed it. I’ve heard laying on your left side makes your bladder fill up faster but since I be sleep I don’t know how long I’m on that side. Oh and fyi, don’t be shocked if you wake up one morning and the world is blurry, that’s another “gift” that comes with it AND raggedy stubborn chin hairs start popping up over night😡. Girl it’s a LOT but we gone be alright…eventually😊
  • Ms. Tabitha, Thank You so much for talking about this. It's like a well kept hidden secret among the nation. I'm 49, have peri menopause. Not in the best place financially. Ice cold water & a sturdy homemade fan has helped me. Also I'm reading other suggestions in the comments. Thank You Ladies as well. God Bless You!! Love You All from NC ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I started taking Potassium supplements for something else and they have drastically reduced my hot flashes!! 🎉 not sure if it’s just me or if the supplement would help others….but it’s something simple I wanted to share ❤
  • @Heylatesha
It’s crazy that the symptoms you experience happen during all phases of life and they can be confusing as well. I love when this conversation happens because for decades it was soo taboo.

I was fighting the good fight with peri and realized I was losing 😂. After consulting a midlife specialist, I went on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and praise God. So much better. I was going through things I didn't even realize - like anxiety and low moods. Didn't realize until I was back to my happy go lucky self. I suggest keeping a food diary to notice which foods bring on flashes. It can be different for everyone.

Hormone repair manual is the name of the book for anyone interested. I haven't met peri yet but experience side effects of having hormonal imbalances. For instance, Dry skin is on another level. We in'ness together y'all. Thank you for sharing the journey.

  • Tabitha I’ve been through menopause and it’s no joke my friend! My poor husband went through it with me, and we have made it out on the other side of it. He was very understanding and I’m so grateful too God that he was, most would be ready to ship you out.. Hot flashes oh my goodness those things had to be the pure devil himself.. Went home I’m from North Carolina and it’s about 4.5 hours where I live and at the time I was half way into menopause and I was with my in-laws on this trip and my sister in-law and we were like an hour into the trip and all of a sudden hot flashes hit me I was dripping in sweat it was so bad. Here it’s winter time and I’m asking my husband to turn the air on and my father in-law was cold due to taking blood thinners because of blood clots and circulation trouble so I was mindful of that so I held off asking for the air as long as I could so I just rolled my window down a little bit and my father in-law is like what are you doing young lady lol I’m old as dirt lol.. Needless to say we got to our destination and I was dripping in sweat and that was no fun at all. This went on for days and all I could do was pray and ask God to help me.. I tell ya I’ve never wanted to see my period so bad but that was long gone.. Mine was very bad and I kept saying how I would trade one for the other oh know that’s not what you want.. The peeing all night long is real and it gets so old because I never get good rest anymore.. The first five hours of trying to sleep is a joke because all I do is pee every 30mins to an hour like clock work. I thank God my kidneys and bladder works but I just need a little sleep that’s all...Tabitha I can’t wait to here what the specialist has too say about the pellet, I’ve heard it’s a wonderful thing.. I Wish you the best...
