2021 Trek Domane Upgrades Part 2

Publicado 2020-10-05
Hi guys welcome to the 2nd video in the 2021 Domane build. In this episode I install a number of new components as the budget allowed and deals came up. If you want to skip to the finished project so far it’s at 9:10. Parts in no particular order are as follows.

-Supacaz cages I had these already and just repainted them.
-Chinese oilslick rotors 160 from aliexpress, not bad but the surface is really coarse this may wear the pads down fast, I’m hoping it mellows out with use.
-Bontrager oilslick pedals
-Bontrager integrated tool, very light but not much leverage, so it’s an emergency tool at best.
-DIY Carbon Bikes wheelset – not recommended as they sent the wrong end caps and it was a major hassle.
-Vittoria corsa tubeless 28mm with stans tape and sealant
-Dura-ace crankset 165mm
-Supacaz reflective oilslick tape
-Bontrager xxx paradigm saddle (ebay special) and xxx carbon stem (craigslist)

Yes the orange crank booties are silly looking but I have a lot of concrete steps to go up and down.
Also I know the handlebar is a bit unproportional, but it fits really well and is comfortable.

So far I'm very happy with the fit and feel of the bike for someone like me who is not very flexible or able to get into a very aero position.

A lot of great stuff there. Enjoyed watching this video.

I;m very appreciative for this video. I originally order the exact bike and color but changed it to the rage red simply because I couldn't find the correct orange color bottle holder and handlebar tape. Great ideal to spray paint the bottle holder. I've been on the fence about changing the wheel out for the Bontrager Aeolus Comp 5 Wheels. Now that I see how great your wheels looks on your bike , I'm definitely doing it. Love what you've done to your bike. Keep making videos.

Looks great. Got thinking about carbon wheels now
  • Great video. I have a 2020 domane. I personally am selling the bike it’s way way to heavy of a bike and I can’t see spending so much extra money on the lowest model domane SL5. But cool to see you like the bike and are making it lighter and cool

Nice video dude. Im thinking of getting the same bike but was concerned with the weight at 10kg. What have you brought it down to now? Didn't fancy Trek aero bars? Sick addiction 🤣 I might buy an Emonda SLR for summer too 🤣

Curious why you didn't mount the Flare RT onto the dedicated mount on the seat post just under the saddle? My Domane doesn't come in until April and I was planning on mounting my light there.
  • I have the domane Sl5 and when i ordered the multi tool and received the bigger version where about did you order it from i got it from trek but it doesn’t fit in my down tube in the storage bag

Clear coat you want is called “USC spray max” its the best you can get without getting a spray done at an autoshop. Stuff will destroy your lungs. Wear organic vapor mask even when spraying outside.
  • Beautiful bike! I am looking to purchase a Domane myself. I was wondering what size you got, and your height? Hows the standover clearance is the top tube angled too much? Thanks!

Thanks for the video. Has anybody modified the seat post/mast? I bought the 60 bike. Bike fits me well except the seat post is maybe 1" too long. I see they offer the shorter version... for $275!!!!

Question.. are your rear screw holes for the bottle water cage off centered?
  • @ekm3820
I have the same exact color bike and I was wondering if you have a link to the paint you used on the cages? Thanks!
  • @ashisahadath
What is your bike size? And your height, inseam

It doesn't take any sense to me, to buy a cheap bike and double its price with new equipment🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
