  • As of December 16th, 2023, the suit actor for Godzilla in the Heisei Era, Mr. Kenpachiro Satsuma, has passed away at the age of 76. His legacy will live on forever, and he will be dearly missed by Godzilla fans all across the world. May he Rest In Peace. 💔
  • Fun fact: producers say that the bells at the end of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah’s theme (21:56) signify Godzilla’s “entry into heaven”. It’s a touching detail for their favorite monster.

I think Minus One Suite 2 is probably my favorite. It starts menacingly and deliberate, like most of the older versions, but quickly picks up, sounding more heroic. Granted most of them do that to an extent, but Minus One's feels the most drastic.

King of the monsters (2019) really feels like they genuinely cared for the franchise. its sooooo good and feels like a natural evolution of the theme rather than shying away from it coughs and looks at previous american godzilla movies
  • Bear McCreary's score for KOTM is damn near the perfect Godzilla score. It's definitely the best American Godzilla score, although Desplat's and Arnold's scores are very admirable too despite not using the old themes.

I literally almost jumped out of my seat when the ending theme from Godzilla Vs Destoroyah played in Minus One! I actually wasn’t expecting composer Naoki Sato to play a rendition of that in Minus One. But lo and behold, He Did!! And it was Absolutely Beautiful!! It made me even more proud to be a G fan! Hail To The King Baby!! Godzilla: Minus One was the best theatrical experience I have ever had in such a long time!

Interestingly, the Godzilla Suite 2 used in Godzilla Minus One actually represents the forces fighting Godzilla. Suite 1 is the one that represents Godzilla himself.

What's funny is that the theme that everyone associates with Godzilla wasn't his theme in the original movie. It was sort of the theme for the military, it played when they were preparing for Godzilla and when they eventually struck back at Godzilla. His own theme in 1954 is a little more villanous and not as heroic sounding, and it still is used in future version of the main theme, I think the Godzilla Suite I in Minus One uses it if I remember right.
  • Fun fact: This is not Godzilla's March. it was originally written and played when the J.S.D.F. showed up. it only became unofficially Big-G's theme due to him being on screen when it was playing.

2019's score just goes to show the Monsterverse needs Bear McCreary to continue composing for the films, a good conposer who knows how to utilize old and iconic melodies to make a unique and powerful scores that pops out amongst generic hollywood scores ..not whatever GvK had (the only good one from that film was Mechagodzilla's theme)

Two things that I like about Heisei marches: epic slow build-up and how they can represent Godzilla's personality in different sides

When I was watching Minus One with my son, and the music kicked in when you see Him fully for the first time... I cried. The scene was PERFECT. I looked at my son, and he was crying too. He grew up watching the old movies alongside me, getting to know the monsters on the roster, especially Godzilla, and his themes. Seeing him experience the same nostalgia as I was feeling was definitely a core memory I'll carry with me. Minus One, and its soundtrack are PERFECT.

Godzilla’s march in 1954 was supposed to be the JSDF’s march, but it got stuck with Godzilla. So the military march became Godzilla’s march.

    小さい頃から聞いてたけどこんなに細かな違いがあったとは知りませんでした 素敵な動画ありがとうございます 海外にこんな熱心なファンがいること、日本人としてすごく嬉しいです
  • @writingref
its interesting how the heroic march can sometimes signify when Godzilla is fighting to protect humanity . . . or sometimes it can fit just as easily into the fight AGAINST Godzilla himself. Its as versatile as the monster.
  • A symphony as iconic as the Kaiju King himself. Long live Gojira and long live Akira Ifukube!
  • @lenngor6053
Never thought of it but, the King of the Monsters version is goosebump material!!! The acient chorus and the huge drums referred to the stomps of Godzilla... amazing. I think this could be the best mordanisation of the original melody! (own oppinion of course)
  • @frankbizzoco1954
There are few pieces of music that can make me stream tears of absolute joy down my face when I hear them, and this is one of them. Akira Ifukube waa a damn genius when he wrote it. I love the OG intro with all the stomps and roars the best. Then vs Drstroyah, and KotM 2019. When I heard Bear McCreary was going to play the Godzilla March in KotM, I was over the moon. His work on the rest of the movie also blew me away. It is a big piece that is missing in the other 2 monsterverse movies with Godzilla. I could listen to this on repeat all day.
  • Godzilla vs Destoroyah's version is just perfect; perfectly paced, perfectly arranged and perfectly implemented in the scene it was used in. This is *the* definitive Godzilla theme for me.
