On this week of Street You Grew Up On, Kerry is joined by the talented comedian, actress, and writer, Robin Thede. The two travel between Robin’s hometown in Iowa and her grandmother’s house on the south side of Chicago where she spent her summers growing up. Here is where she formed her fondest memories: road-tripping to the city, playing with kids in the neighborhood, cooking with her grandmother, cracking jokes, and putting together skits with her cousins. Spending time with family is where she would discover her love for comedy and television; being inspired by watching Whoopi Goldberg and Kim Wayans perform. Robin eventually was able to meet these two inspiring women and thank them for their role in her continued success.

Robin & Kerry's rapport is like best friends. The way they greeted eachother was with so much love! Robin kept the energy high and she made the perfect guest. Enjoy the journey that's the magic not the destination. Always ask yourself what am I giving out of it not what am I getting. Peace 💫🧡

Loved this episode! I had no idea that Robin was from Chicago and Iowa. I'm a Chicagoan and I have family in Iowa. I got a chuckle out her going through Chicago slang. lol.... Also, her stories of her time on the South Side with her grandmother and extended relatives made me smile. I could definitely relate as someone who grew up on the North and West sides of the city, as well as spent holidays and school breaks with my relatives. The best part of this episode was Robin sharing how she has continued her family's legacy and great purpose of being in service to their communities. Lastly, I wish that "Black Lady Sketch Show" could've gotten picked up for another season, but I'm sure Robin is cooking up something even greater.

That hump on South bound LSD was always so fun. We used to pretend that we were flying when we hit that hump. What a shared core memory unlocked.

  • This is me realizing that Robin was raised in Chicago, and grew up in the historic South Shore. I had no idea, and have been a fan for years. South Siiiiiiiiiiiiiide! Love you sis.
