ORIGINAL "Yub Nub" Scene (1983) - ROTJ 16mm Film Preservation
This is the original "Yub Nub" scene from Return of the Jedi with the original Ewok song in place of "Victory Celebration". This also has Sebastion Shaw as Darth Vader's Force ghost instead of Hayden Christensen. You can watch the entire version of this movie for yourself here: archive.org/details/ROTJ16mm

For those not aware, better versions of the Theatrical Releases exist and I talk about them in my video here: youtube.com/watch?v=NbvNE...

I do not own the rights to or to distribute Star Wars. That ability belongs to the Disney Corporation. This video is purely for preservation purposes. The music in this video belongs to John Williams, and therefore Disney.

That sweeping end that blends with the triumphant Star Wars theme is especially satisfying.

The ending lines of Yub Nub change into English, "Celebrate the love." The original with Sebastian Shaw is bittersweet, because it shows Anakin as what he could have/ should have been, had he not fallen to the Dark Side. Shaw is shown beaming and proud. Hayden's headshot was gleaned from ROTS footage, and he just...leers.

I had been looking for this ending for a long time and I could not find it anywhere. Brings back many memories of my chilhood. Thank you so much for sharing it
  • This is probably my favorite ending to any movie ever! I don't care what anyone says, I love this song. And when the score kicks in and Anakin appears I get all misty-eyed. It was a crime to change this. (And for the record, I unfortunately saw the revised edition first, and I never want to watch that again!)
  • That certainly works a lot better than adding the confused HC in the finale. Thank you for posting these memories from a fantastic childhood.

The Yub Nub song sounds a lot more "Ewok-esque"

man the feels of a childhood with the proper ending
  • OK, i totally understand some changes, but THIS scene should stay like this forever.
  • Over the years, I have always wondered why they pose together at the end like someone's taking a photo!

Yub nub is such a much funkier beat than that other song...I can't get down with to that.

SO much better than the Special Edition version.

There was absolutely NO reason for Lucas to change this. The man is a genius, but sometimes he's his own worst enemy. Shoulda left well enough alone, George.
  • YES! This is the ending I loved in "Return Of The Jedi". I hated the change Lucas made with new music and celebrations from all over different areas of the galaxy. By the way, the theme played during the scene when Luke burns Darth Vader's body sounds (mostly) like the theme in the original "Star Wars" film when Luke sees the binary sunset (with two suns) on Tatooine.

Funny how Leia doesn’t seem to perceive the force ghosts in front of her, including her hero Obi Wan from 10 years prior.
