Don’t know why Paul got so much criticism for that, you can tell he’s in shock and it clearly hadn’t sunk in at that point

They shove a mic down Paul's throat and ask him what he thinks about his (for all practical purposes) brother just getting murdered. The reporter is lucky Paul didn't smash his face in.

I was eight years old when he died. I remember having a vivid nightmare about someone being shot. The next day, I heard about John’s passing. I was very young, but grew up listening to The Beatles.

I was in 9th grade when John Lennon was killed. At school the next day, all of my teachers were in obvious shock. I remember the in-class assignment during my English class was to write train-of-thought in our journals while listening to The Beatles White Album. It was surreal.
  • Please give due credit to Bernie Taupin for writing the words to "Empty Garden."

I remember the day. My first image for the day was of my mum sat in bed, holding my baby brother, crying. My brother had unusually woken up at 6am for a feed, and when she put the radio on, it was the first thing she heard. At first she thought it was a publicity stunt. It was just before my 4th birthday, it’s the earliest memory I can recall.

You can clearly see that Paul McCartney was traumatised and so upset in that moment he just couldn’t really talk publicly. I -as am sure many others - completely get it and have reacted the same way when Ive lost family and friends. You’re so overcome that all you really want to do is to get away from everyone, to be alone because it’s so raw and you are so weighed down that you just lose the ability to put into words the immense pain and grief you’re feeling.

Yes, I remember the day. I was 8 years old, in Athens, Greece, and already a huge fan. Because of the time difference we got the news on the evening news. We were all having dinner, and this was of course the first news report of the day. I remember some seconds of this weird, frozen silence, and then my mother started sobbing and couldn't stop. I just remember being frozen.

I'm old enough to remember John Lennon's death. In the UK it was a very sad time, just before Christmas. People couldn't really digest the news of his passing, times were different then. But I do remember John Lennon being on the radio all the time. I think he still holds the record of quickest 3 number ones (just like starting over, Imagine & Woman). A thoroughly decent human being, a genius. Nobody, nobody should live in a world where a mentally unstable person can purchase a firearm. Imagine.
  • There's a video of paul listening to beautiful boy and he starts to cry.
  • Really don’t know why Paul McC gets the criticism he cops . Shame on the reporter quizzing him. Grief and shock of a friends death should be a private thing far out of the public eye. Not an opportunity for a headline by some shady reporter!
  • I was 10 years old, dec 8, 1980. My mom got me a sweatshirt years ago with with his picture on it.
  • Empty garden was played more than once in concert so you’re incorrect. It was just rarely played because of the obvious connotations. It was mainly played at Madison Square Garden when Elton was in the New York City area.

I was out that night,at a choir event. Then I said something about his song,Startting Over, and she says “ He died.” I did not believe her. Then I heard the same song 🎵 right before bed. The D.J. announced it. Then said”Sad but true”. My head shot up. Then my friend right beside me the next day asked if I heard. In art class I heard the story from the table behind me. I also heard Mark’s side. You have to watch what you say in public. Mark’s mental health wasn’t treated properly. Sharen
  • Freddie wrote a masterpiece dedicated to John... Life is Real (Song for Lennon) Which is on their trainwreck of an album Hot Space...but still a great song no less...
  • You are wrong. Empty garden has been played many more times than once, but it is rarely played when he was active in concert. He usually played it mainly at Madison Square Garden.
  • I,ll never forget that day but in Ireland 🇮🇪 it was the 9th . Had 2 be sent home from school. I was uncomfortablely emotional wreck. To this day I,m emotional over John. He will live forever as he was so loved & his music. Plus we can't forget his 2 boys Julian & Sean. Love him so much 🙏✌❤☘
