"We used to be friends." Alright, hear me out. What if, before the stream, Gordon WAS Gordon. He had his own life, past, wants, dreams, and goals. But once the stream started, Gordon's body was taken over and Benrey remembers those times he spent with Gordon because to him they actually happened. But Gordon doesn't remember them because he's not "Gordon" anymore! That or I'm really baked.
