In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have Dr. Velumani Arokiaswamy in Conversation with Raj Shamani. He is the founder of Thyrocare, India’s leading clinical laboratory. It has 7000+ centers all over India. But this conversation is not just about Thyrocare but about a person who was born poor but ended up building a billion-dollar company and exited it with a 5000 crore cheque.

In this episode, we talked about how he became the leader of his family at the age of 10. How he started earning at the age of 11 to how he went to a college and chose Bcom over BSc to save money, how his teacher funded his BSc, how he got rejected from 50 companies after his graduation and how he came to Mumbai with 500 rupees, slept on the railway station for 3 days until he got selected in BARC. His journey and stories between these struggles and wins will motivate you to the core. We talked about how his father-in-law persuaded him to marry his daughter and how his wife became his first employee at Thyrocare. He shared the story of building thyrocare.

Towards the end, we talked about business and entrepreneurship and he gave tons of advice and tips for entrepreneurs. He also shared why he exited his company and his life post the exit. My favorite punch line is 1. Keeping the price low 2. Let your competitors do marketing for you 3. You can never take decision when you discuss be independent and take decision alone. 4. Freedom is the biggest blessing. 5. Fortunately born poor 6. Take risk when you feel you have nothing to lose. ( Count this as blessings) 7. When his wife said "i want to be the greatest person of a struggling family rather then a mediocre person of a established family" 8. Hire more freshers and train them by your self it's better then hiring experienced persons. And on the lighter note "Everyone wants an experienced employee but no one wants an experienced wife 😂😂" very Halirous ☺️☺️
  • I have worked for 3 years in Thyrocare They hired me as a fresher, I am very proud of you Sir
  • Last punch line... If you do new mistake everyday you will be billionaire, and if you make a same mistake everyday you will be beggar...😊....such a inspiring talk...👌👌👍
  • "Jeena tha toh Coimbatore mein bhi jee sakta tha par Mumbai aya toh jeetna hai" ek filmy dialogue hai yeh toh lekin bohat zabardast motivation. Very inspiring journey

Poverty is a fortune. Pampered child can not be a good enterpreneur. There is a time tp quit from Mad race. Freshers are like blank paper in which one can draw futuristic image. Thanks Raj & Mani sir both.
