"I don't have the sexual confidence of Miss Piggy." - John Oliver. I hear you, bro.
  • @jmarkellos
As a violinist who married a violist, I laughed really hard, then showed this to my wife. She did not laugh, she only threw things at me.
  • @thewalrusaurus
I'm pretty sure this is the first time in human history that anyone has uttered the sentence: "do you have the sexual confidence to play the viola?"

"I assume silence, so I'm not shocked when it comes." He's so damn British. LMAO
  • @NewhamMatt
Came for the muppets; stayed for the viola jokes.
  • @sicklittlejag
As a viola player, I reflexively shouted HEY in unison with Jon after Stephen called it a useless violin.
  • Colbert expecting his jokes to land and Oliver expecting them to bomb is the difference between the US and UK mentality...

The title: Which Muppet is John Oliver? The content: Deep emotional questions about self esteem and enjoyment as you make your way through a comedy career.
  • "Do you have the sexual confidence to play the viola?" Truly the greatest interview of our time.
  • @starrdust13
Stephen: Do you have the sexual confidence to play the viola? John: giggles
  • @superstarjack3
"I've never had the sexual confidence of Ms. Piggy" maybe the funniest off the cuff thing I have ever heard!!!
  • @rachelb4398
Did anyone else not want this interview to end? I could watch these two together all day...

john oliver talking about the viola and his skill is called the confidence curve. when you are ignorant, you have almost no confidence, but when you get a little skill or training, you have a massive spike. as you grow, you become more aware of the gulf between you and real talent. but if you get over that, you begin to regain your confidence along with your growing skill.

And that is why, in Germany, we call the viola a "Bratsche", for the sound it makes when you smash it against the wall.
  • @fredygump5578
It's amazing how Colbert tricked Oliver into defending his viola! So smooth, so effortless. Like magic! John was trying so hard to pretend he doesn't care about the viola!
  • @grmpEqweer
John Oliver is so funny, in such a wholesome sort of way.
  • @maivaiva1412
I haven't ever related to John Oliver as much as when hearing him describe his attitude towards playing music, damn.
  • @iwong3357
"Viola's like a violin, except useless." Hey, hey, hey! We keep the beat and add deeper tones! As do the Cellos!
  • @Real28
I love this format more than the big studio. Hearing the laughter of the crew is fantastic and genuine.
