Nelson was so nonchalant and easy going... almost calming amongst the constant chaos

On a personal level, I'm now thankful that we had Nelson around at that time. His "Club Kid" videos are a mesmerizing glimpse into the world of my friends and I in that very special era. But most Importantly, Nelson created a culturally significant archive of his life and surroundings and the lives and surroundings of other people during the 80's. The "Club Kids" just happened to be part of the surroundings in Nelson's world at that time. I'm 100% sure that Nelson would be "THE" superstar Vlogger if he were around today. It's amazing to see so much appreciation for his work, 25+ years on.
  • Nelson seems like the kind of person who was a loyal friend and someone who was always a delight to hang out with. He feels almost like a half remembered friend from long ago - it's a special person that makes someone who's never met him feel that way.

And Michael Alig dies exactly 32 years later.

It's so crazy that here on Christmas Eve he was so happy he was at the height of his career he was loved he was healthy and he wasn't a murderer and decades later he would die on Christmas of an overdose

It's eerie, to a degree, that Michael Alig would die on this day 32 years later. He was surrounded by friends and laughter on this occasion -- and likely alone and unhappy in 2020. I used to watch this video thinking how bittersweet it was that this was Nelson's last Christmas, now it is doubly so. Life comes at you fast. May they both rest in peace.

No body sitting on their phones being anti social, everyone actually enjoying themselves with each other. Amazing.

I looked up this guy as I am an artist and find this so interesting and wondered what he was doing now, but felt sad reading that he is no longer with us. Thank you for uploading this, I can imagine he would be very happy knowing so many people are interested in his video diaries. He really is a man of the time...

You know it's a good party when everyone ends up in the bathroom.

it's so freaky watching the real people after the movie

I was too young to be club kid by a few years but what's fascinating about this footage is it feels EXACTLY like house parties I attended in the mid 90s as a full blown raver and party promoter, where the movers and shakers (and no small amount of hangers on) of the party scene would have their little get togethers. The drugs were the same, the age group, personality blend, and young-adult insecurities and bravado were all the same. It puts the Alig scene into extremely relatable context for me, their particular scene broke through into the national zeitgeist, in no small thanks to Michael's pathology, but apparently it was fundamentally the same as my experience. I suppose this isn't new knowledge, hell, there are probably kids out there right now riding the crest of whatever scene they're into much like You, I, and Nelson did in our day, and it probably looks like this.

Such good sound quality for a 1988 handheld video camera. That 80’s music is something else! What a special time capsule this video is. Magic

I love it when friends greet each other with a kiss!
