We are aware that Digital Foundry has reported the resolution at 900p. We have rechecked our numbers but have not been able to find any 900p shots. While we are confident in our numbers we also have great respect for Digital Foundry's expertise in this area and it is possible some unrecognized rendering characteristic is throwing off either our or their numbers. It is also possible the game makes use of dynamic resolution. As mentioned in the video, given the nature of the footage please take all stated metrics with a grain of salt.

This game is going to push the switch to its limits.
  • @tipoomaster
Makes me excited to see what they can do with this on the much more powerful Switch 2, 3X the RAM and DLSS. The 9 year old underclocked Tegra X1 is tired, man.
  • @Szmajdzik
Wait... 720p? Definitely looks more than that with decent sharpness and low aliasing. Impressive stuff.
  • What’s funny is people on some forums think this looks “too good to be on the current Switch.” It’s like they didn’t play Metroid Prime Remastered. Really looking forward to MP4!

Going off the gameplay teasers for MP3, I have a feeling this is a beta version. The final version will likely have the shadows fixed and UI changed.
  • @MohanRam
Finally, and from looking at this teaser I am so HAPPY that it is Retro making this game. Who knows how Namco would done, but I don't think it would have been as good IMHO.
  • I thought it was running on Switch 2 but the fact this is running on the OG Switch is just WIZARDRY. Wow! I do still think this will be a cross-gen title for both Switch and Switch 2 though!
  • I'm fascinated to know what the story was as to why the previous developer wasn't suitable for this game. I wonder what the specific details the of the restart were.

Great breakdown! It’s crazy they are able to still use the same engine. MP1 was such a standout in visuals on the gamecube and I’m glad tempeh are still able to use the same engine today with updates. The look of the environments are such an important part of these games.

Honestly, i was worried before the footage and particulary before Metroid Prime Remake, -that new Metroid would be Unreal -engine 30fps game. There is nothing wrong with the Unreal -engine. It's just used way too often (resulting lots of samey looking games). But original Metroid Prime engine is the most impressive 3D -engine, i think. The engine's ability to hit solid 60fps with incredible textures and effects is jawdropping. Metroid Prime was even more ahead of its time than first Unreal -game.
  • I believe this is the OG Switch as anyone who's had play Alien Isolation will know how damn awesome that game plays & runs.
  • We'll I hope it turns out to be a flawless masterpeace and meets Nintendos sales expectations for it.
  • The back of that big open area is clearly a billboard matte painting, just like they used in Dread for the backgrounds in the train areas. The bridge does look like it could be a low poly mesh. The fire and smoke looks like EmberGen. The ship looks like her helmet inverted.
  • God i hope they dont forget multiplayer, metroid hunters showed us exactly how metroid multiplayer should be done.
  • @SupaDaBloopa
If the Switch can be absolutely pushed to its limits to do THIS, just imagine what the Switch 2 will be able to do. I’m so excited for the future of Nintendo!
  • @SkrappyIE
I love how they kept the style of the original arm canon but slimmed it down at the same time. Making a slim arm canon with modern samus styles.
  • @fghjxcvb
It’s odd that your count has it as 720p but another YouTube group said their count is 900p
  • @RZA36
John's content is always top notch. Great video.
