Maya 2025 is finally here, with an impressive roster of 3D modeling improvements. Many of the tools and features build on the updates from 2024 to dramatically improve the speed at which you create and iterate 3D models.
While Testing the new 3D modeling tools, I took on a complex hard surface model challenge. Surprisingly, these tools helped me finish much faster and even changed my 3d modeling workflow.

Solid set of additions. Smart extrude and bevel filtering look particularly useful.

That smart extrude is something I've been wanting in maya for yearssss. In the days of Google sketchup this was the standard (albeit not as topologically smart) and always missed having such basic and useful feature.

Yo that smart extrude is crazy. As well as the bevel boolean. I work in airforce virtual reality creation as a modeler and theres sooo many ridiculous aircraft parts that look insane and require booleans or quad drawing off of a 3d scan.

Pretty sweet lineup this year, you just love to see it. If it's stable enough, it may even get me to upgrade from Maya 2022. I guess we'll see. I've had a lot of issues with 2023 and 2024. Smart extrude is one of those features that should have been in Maya a very long time ago, and as someone who's still relatively new to 3D modelling, that's exactly how I would expect it to work, but quickly learnt that it doesn't.

My problem with Maya 2024 was that Redshift took to so long to become compatible but since I started rendering with Solaris and Karma that no longer is a problem, really looking forward to trying out some of these new features.

Looking very handy :) Cannot wait to try the smart extrude (that's been such a pain...) Bevels... I don't know... I like to have full control of bevels, but for some less important assets it will speed up the process.

wooooooooooooooowwwww BEVEL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mays is so advanced! Who knew in 2024 technology would be so advanced to have bevel! We were all waiting a decade for a signifcant update, but at the end, all that money and waiting was worth it.... now we have......BEVEL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! p.s. i already switched to Houdini last year, and I promise it's a completely different league.
